  • '21 Jump Street': Channing Tatum-Jonah Hill bromance disarms critics

Though ostensibly based on the '80s cult TV series of the same name, the new action-comedy "21 Jump Street" also draws heavily on buddy-cop conventions, "Superbad"-style high-school high jinks and the grand tradition of the stoner bromance (see also: the "Harold & Kumar" films, "Pineapple Express"). For all its raunchy familiarity, the film, which stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as rookie cops going undercover to bust a drug ring in their old high school, is charming critics.

Times film critic Betsy Sharkey writes that "21 Jump Street" has "an endearing, punch-you-in-the-arm-because-I-like-you-man charm" and that Hill and Tatum display "great goofball gusto." Both actors — "rock hard" Tatum and "squishy soft" Hill — "bring a kind of vulnerability to their characters that makes whatever mayhem they are up to OK." Sharkey notes that the film is not only about but also created by a buddy pair: Phil Lord and Christopher Miller ("Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs"), who "clearly understand the push-and-pull and hyper-competitiveness that make guy friendships both complex and stupid."
In the New York Times, A.O. Scott calls the film "an example of how formula-driven entertainment can succeed." Although "21 Jump Street" is "full of the usual boy-comedy stuff" and doesn't break any new conceptual ground, "the whole mess is silly, spirited, and, yes, smart enough to work." Scott credits Hill and Tatum, playing into and against their conventional roles, for providing "the real energy in the film," rather than the run-of-the-mill action sequences.

Roger Ebert, of the Chicago Sun-Times, says "21 Jump Street" isn't a faithful adaptation of the TV series but rather "a mashup of screwball comedy, action and 'The Odd Couple' formula" — and the result isn't half-bad. Ebert commends the script, by Michael Bacall, which is slyly self-referential and "happy to point out all of its improbabilities." Ebert agrees with Scott that the action scenes are a bore; more interesting by far is "the debut of Channing Tatum as an actor who can play comedy. He deadpans so well here he might start looking at Cary Grant movies for remake ideas."

USA Today film critic Claudia Puig is also impressed by Tatum. She writes, "it's no surprise that Hill, as bumbling officer Schmidt, generates so many laughs. But who would expect Tatum, as the dimwitted officer Jenko, to be so comical? More often cast as a standard heartthrob … Tatum holds his own with Hill and every other comic actor in the film."

Corned Beef & Cabbage for St. Patrick’s Day!

There’s something very symbolic about Corned Beef & Cabbage. It’s closely associated with Irish tradition but, more specifically, to poor Irish immigrants who couldn’t afford better cuts of meat. This meal is celebratory, simple and sparse—the perfect Lenten meal. Its A delicious respite to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day! Generally speaking, dioceses with large Irish populations will often waive the Lenten Friday meat abstinence rules if St. Patrick’s day falls on a Friday so be sure to take advantage of this great recipe.

    Corned Beef and Cabbage

There are several problems with cooking Corned Beef. First, it’s a cheap cut of meat and therefore tough and this requires a long, slow cooking time at low heat. Second, this long, slow cooking time often leaves the meat dry and unappetizing. The best way to cook it is to plan ahead and use a slow cooker.

Don’t worry about the alcohol in this recipe—the heat will dissipate it so this recipe is family-friendly! I prefer to open a can of Guinness and leave it out on the counter overnight. If you don’t have time for this, simply pour it in a bowl and whisk it for a few minutes before pouring it into the cooker.

    Ingredients

1 large can of flat Guinness beer (or any pilsner will do, the cheaper the better)
    1 head cabbage, chopped
    1 shot of Irish whiskey
    1 tablespoon of coriander seeds
    1 tablespoon of ground cumin
    1 tablespoon of garlic powder
1 tablespoon of Tabasco Sauce (optional)
    12 red potatoes, roughly cut
    2 cloves of garlic, minced
    2 onions, chopped
    4 carrots, sliced
    4 cups water
    5 pounds of corned beef

    Directions

Line the bottom of the slow cooker with the potatoes, onion, garlic and carrots.
Add the beer, whiskey, water and spices (including the Tabasco Sauce if you chose to use it)
Place the corned beef on the bed of vegetables.
    Add the cabbage.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Set the cooker on high and cook for 8-9 hours until fork tender.

Just a Spoonful of Cinnamon Makes the Internet Rounds

The so-called cinnamon challenge—a dare to swallow a spoonful of cinnamon without water—has gone viral and beyond. Though the challenge has been around for years, its popularity has spiked recently, to the amusement—or puzzlement—of many.

Some 30,000 videos tagged "cinnamon challenge" have been uploaded on to YouTube. The most popular, with almost nine million views, was uploaded last month; it shows a woman with big earrings slurping a pile of brown powder from a soup ladle and immediately, dramatically, spitting it out. A fit of coughing follows.

The difficulty is that the spice doesn't break down very fast and can get stuck in the throat, causing gagging and even vomiting. Doctors say this can be dangerous because the cinnamon can prevent air from reaching the lungs. "It is an obvious choking hazard and there is a risk of inhaling the dust. This certainly is not advisable," says a spokesman from the Food and Drug Administration.

Dr. Jeffrey Cain, president-elect for the American Academy of Family Physicians, says the cinnamon itself isn't dangerous—but inflammation of the lungs is a real possibility. That, and being laughed at, he says.

As a result, schools from Alabama to Guam are warning parents and staff about the potential dangers of swallowing so much cinnamon at once. "The kids all know about this from the Internet but the parents have no idea," says Arthur Williams, principal at Huron High School in Ann Arbor, Mich., who emailed parents after a student was recently hospitalized for 4½ days because of lung trouble after trying the challenge.

Pottstown Middle School in Pottstown, Pa., which has had three reported incidents of students taking the cinnamon challenge on campus since January, caught a student trying to smuggle a vial of cinnamon into school in a pair of boots. The school subsequently put a ban "open-top boots," also intended to stop cellphone smuggling.

North Korea says it will Launch Long-Range Rocket

North Korea announced plans Friday to blast a satellite into space on the back of a long-range rocket, a provocative move that could jeopardize a weeks-old agreement with the U.S. exchanging food aid for nuclear concessions.

The North agreed to a moratorium on long-range launches as part of the deal with Washington, but it argues that its satellite launches are part of a peaceful space program that is exempt from any international disarmament agreements. The U.S., South Korea and other critics say the rocket technology overlaps with belligerent uses and condemn the satellite program as a disguised way of testing military missiles in defiance of a U.N. ban.

    [Related: U.S. condemns satellite plans]

The launch is to take place three years after a similar launch in April 2009 drew widespread censure.

Japan urged Pyongyang to abandon the latest launch, calling it a violation of a U.N. resolution restricting the North's use of ballistic missile technology, and South Korea called the plans a "grave provocation."

The liftoff is slated for between April 12 and 16 from a west coast launch pad in North Phyongan province to test satellite technology, a spokesman for the Korean Committee for Space Technology said in a statement carried by state media.

The plan comes as North Korea prepares to celebrate the April 15 centenary of the birth of its founder, Kim Il Sung. Kim's grandson, Kim Jong Un, has led the nation of 24 million since his father, Kim Jong Il, died in December.

WORLD'S LARGEST BRACKET? CHECK. BUT FOR HOW LONG?

Something that won't stay in Vegas for long: the title of "World's Largest NCAA Bracket."
The bugs were still being ironed out at press time. But it's designed to display the bracket on the underside of a 1,500-foot by 90-foot canopy that covers a downtown street between casinos, apparently because there never seem to be enough scoreboards in Vegas when you really need one.

Anyway, check out the story and photo in the Las Vegas Review-Journal: http://bit.ly/AzlDq1

And do it before the sheiks in Dubai get wind of this and begin construction on a bigger one. They don't play a lot of hoops over there, but they are very, very competitive that way.

    TODAY'S CELEBRITY ALUM ...

Bruce Hornsby told AP's Will Graves after UNC-Asheville almost toppled Syracuse in Pittsburgh that he's just another Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter who wishes he was a better baller. Think Kanye West, or Nelly, but with fewer tattoos and radically different tastes in music. Best known for the 1980s easy-listening hit "The Way It Is," Hornsby is taller than you'd think seeing him on TV -- 6-foot-4, though at age 57, he insists he's "shrinking" -- and knows his way around a court better than you'd ever guess.

He turned down a basketball scholarship at Randolph-Macon to play piano, eventually graduated from Miami (Fla.), and roots for UNC-Asheville because his son, Keith, chose the fork in the road that dad bypassed and plays shooting guard there. Funny how things worked out.

"This is a new thing for our family," Hornsby said, clad in Bulldog blue. "There's never been an athlete at this level in this branch of the family."

The old man knew that when Keith finally smoked him one-on-one as a ninth-grader, despite plenty of smack.

"And I talk," Hornsby said, laughing, "like you wouldn't believe."

    CELEBRITY ALUM -- HONORABLE MENTION

No shortage of mad skills for our second alum. Stephen Curry can play with anyone. Back in his college days at tiny Davidson, Curry led the nation in scoring, was a consensus All-America pick and likely to ring up 30 points or more on tournament nights. He single-handedly carried the Wildcats to the threshold of the 2008 Final Four before they were knocked out by eventual champion Kansas.

His NBA career has been slightly less eventful. Taken at No. 7 in the 2009 NBA draft by Golden State, Curry averaged 18 points per game in his first two full seasons. He was rehabbing a troublesome right ankle at the Warriors' practice facility on the other side of the country when AP's Janie McCauley caught up with him after Davidson made its exit Thursday night courtesy of Louisville, 69-62. Despite both setbacks, Curry was in a good mood because his loyalties were no longer divided. Younger brother Seth plays for Duke.

George Clooney Arrested at Sudanese Embassy

Movie star George Clooney was led away in handcuffs after storming the Sudanese Embassy protesting the actions of the country's president Omar Al-Bashir, an alleged war criminal.

Clooney made the rounds in Washington this week, hoping his superstar wattage will help shine a light on the situation in Sudan. The actor testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and held private meetings with the Secretary of State and President Obama about the African nation's dire humanitarian situation and the Obama administration's policy. He led a protest today outside of Sudan's embassy calling on Omar Al-Bashir, an alleged war-criminal, to stop the violence and allow humanitarian aid into the country.

Also among those arrested were Clooney's Father Nick Clooney, President of United to End Genocide and former Congressman Tom Andrews, Congressmen Jim McGovern, D-MA, Al Green, D-TX), Jim Moran, D-VA., and John Olver D-MA, Martin Luther King III, NAACP President Ben Jealous, and Enough Project Co-Founder John Prendergast, according to a police statement.

The Hollywood actor has been working with the John Prendergast from the advocacy group the Enough Project for years. He co-founded the Sudan Sentinel Project, which tracks human rights abuses on the border of Sudan and South Sudan using satellite cameras. Clooney's said in the past that he wants to draw attention to the atrocities Al-Bashir's allegedly directed against his own people for decades, to "make him famous."

Clooney's not the only celebrity to get involved with human rights causes. Angelina Jolie may be one of the most well-known movie star philanthropists. She's a good will ambassador for the United Nations Refugee Committee, and has spoken out and given money to numerous causes. She attended the reading of the first verdict from the International Criminal Court this week, finding Congolese warlord Thomas Lubanga guilty of using child soldiers. Jolie had been part of the process to bring Lubanga to justice. She visited the court three times during the trial and funded the Lubanga Chronicles, a program that used written articles, radio and the web to inform the Congolese public and the international community about the case.

"Perhaps [this] verdict of guilty provides some measure of comfort for the victims of Mr Lubanga's actions," Jolie said in a statement. "Most of all it sends a strong message against the use of child soldiers."

Actor Ben Affleck launched his own organization the East Congo Initiative, focused on supporting and funding local humanitarian groups in Eastern Congo. He too has testified before Congress and met with leaders in Washington, even traveling to the Democratic Republic of Congo with Cindy McCain, the wife of Senator John McCain. His friend Matt Damon has started an organization focused on access to clean water in the developing world. Actor Don Cheadle has also fought for human rights and against genocide with the Enough Project.

    Hundred x 100: Sachin's tryst with destiny

One year and five days since he scored his 99th international century, Sachin Tendulkar reached the unprecedented landmark of 100. For over a year a legion of fans had watched in anticipation as Tendulkar strode to the crease in India, England and Australia, and at 17:07 local time, when he nudged towards square leg for a single, there was a collective release of emotions.

Tendulkar, 38, had been stuck on 99 international centuries since March 12, 2011 when he scored a century against South Africa during the World Cup. During the time he took to move from 99 to 100, so much has changed for the Indian cricket team. In the last 12 months they have won the World Cup, slipped form their No. 1 perch in the ICC’s Test rankings, been whitewashed in consecutive overseas Test tours, failed to make the finals of a tri-series, and have seen Rahul Dravid make his exit from the international scene.

In those 12 months, Tendulkar’s batting returns had also diminished. In 11 Tests he has scored 778 runs at an average of 37.04, with a best of 94. He came close to scoring that a hundred a couple other times too; at The Oval he made 91 and in Sydney he reached 80. That innings of 94 was the best chance he had of getting to three figures – Tendulkar came out on the fourth morning in Mumbai in robust mood – but an unwarranted dab to third man ended up in the slips.

Tendulkar did not play an ODI since the World Cup final on April 2, 2011 until he was named in India’s squad for the CB Series after the Test debacle in Australia. That period included four ODI contests, against West Indies and England home and away. Injury played its part, with Tendulkar being ruled out of the ODI leg in England. In 12 ODIs since that century in Nagpur Tendulkar had made 307 runs at 25.58, with his best shot at the 100th hundred being his chancy 85 against Pakistan in the World Cup semi-final. He had not crossed 48 since then, until today.

Tendulkar’s 100th century was a fluent innings, which began a brilliant cover drive for four in the second over of India’s innings in Mirpur. His cutting and driving was especially eye-catching, and the way he maneuvered the Bangladesh spinners was masterful. His half-century came up with a lofted boundary over extra, off the 63 balls, and three figures came in the 44th over, off 138 deliveries and with ten fours and one six.

Upon reaching three figures, Tendulkar closed his eyes and looked up to the skies as he has so many times before this. And yes, a big sigh of relief.

Poachers slaughter half the elephant population in Cameroon park

At least half the elephants in Cameroon's Bouba N'Djida reserve were slaughtered because the west African nation sent too few security forces to tackle poachers, the World Wide Fund for Nature said on Thursday.

In what was described as one of the worst poaching massacres in decades, as many as 200 elephants have been killed for their tusks since January by poachers on horseback from Chad and Sudan, the fund said.

Rising demand in Asia for jewelry and ornaments made from elephant tusks is understood to be among the factors behind the spike in poaching.

"WWF is disturbed by reports that the poaching continues unabated," Natasha Kofoworola Quist, WWF's representative in the region, said in a statement.

It was the second major elephant-poaching report out of Africa this month. On March 5, the warden at Virunga National Park, a U.N. World Heritage Site in the Democratic Republic of Congo, said poaching had become so severe that rangers began using bloodhounds to track down poachers. The Virunga elephant population has fallen to fewer than 400 from an estimated 3,000 in the 1980s.

In Cameroon, about 20 fresh elephant carcasses were discovered last week, a WWF spokesperson said.

The government of the Central African state has sent special forces to track the poachers and end the killing spree in the north of the country, but the WWF said this may be too little, too late.

"The forces arrived too late to save most of the park's elephants and were too few to deter the poachers," Quist said. She said the organization regretted that a soldier was killed during a clash with the poachers.

Dating clichés that are actually true

No doubt about it, scientists do amazing things. But sometimes people in white coats emerge from the labs, proud and exhausted with conclusions that are so painfully obvious (Beautiful people have more romantic options! Confident people are more attractive!) that it makes us wonder why they even bothered. So why do they? “We can’t assume the obvious, because sometimes what we believe to be fact is colored by our social experience and expectation,” says Scott Haltzman, M.D., author of The Secrets of Happily Married Women. “A century ago, it was ‘fact’ that women couldn’t be expected to be intelligent enough to vote, and that women who were pregnant needed to avoid any heavy exercise. It is ‘obvious’ that chocolate is bad, or that wine is bad. Newer studies show there are health benefits. Until we test out what we ‘know’ is true, then we are just perpetuating stereotypes. Scientists need to re-do studies, because almost always, there are methodological problems in previous studies. One interesting study that showed women were more likely to describe themselves as ‘feelers’ rather than being mechanistically inclined showed [that] the difference disappeared if you didn’t ask the person to identify themselves by sex at the beginning of the study,” explains Haltzman.

The fact is, so-called “obvious research” offers insights about dating and relationships that we need in order to make informed decisions about our own love lives. And people are fascinated by the results even if they could have predicted them as common-sense outcomes, says Haltzman: “People are drawn to reading about and hearing about these studies because humans are social animals, and on an unconscious level, we are constantly trying to make sense of social cues to improve our own standing among our peers. A guy may guess that when a woman strokes a beer bottle and gazes downward she’s interested in him, but it helps to have the scientific proof to back it up!”

Sri Amma Bhagavan Scams and Scandals: Kalki bhagavan fraud Photo

Kalki bhagavan fraud of kalki avatar and amma bhagavan has been reportedly exposed by a Telugu news channel Tv9 in which Kalki Bhagavan (Vijay Kumar Naidu) and Amma Bhagawan are being targeted.
Vijay Kumar Naidu born in Arcot district of Tamil Nadu has used names such as Mukteshwar, Sri Kalki Bhagavan, and Sri Bhagavan. Both Kalki Bhagavan and Amma Bhagwan claim to be two divine Avatars who will bring humanity into the Golden Age.
According to claims of Kalki Bhagavan and Amma Bhagwan — they will enlighten (or give Deeksha to) 64,000 people in the world
and these people in a highly enlightened state of communion would transform the rest of the humanity by 2012.
One of the devotees Narayana who has opened the lid has indicated that Kalki Bhagavan and Amma Bhagwan are charging exorbitant sums of money. For example Darshan of Amma’s padam the devotees are shelling out 5000-6000 Rupees and for Special Darshan 20-25,000 Rupees while the 60,000 Rupees is charged for the Homam. Kalki Bhagavan and Amma Bhagwan have amssed a wealth of 240 Crores while their trust is running many businesses including Real Estate.
The biggest questions if the TV9 is doing this just to gain TRPs or there is truth behind the allegations? What the authorities are doing?

HBO Suspends Filming With Horses After Another Horse Death

A horse was injured and euthanized Tuesday during production of the racetrack drama "Luck," the third death in connection with the series, and HBO agreed to suspend filming with horses while the accident is investigated.

The humane group that oversees Hollywood productions had issued an immediate demand "that all production involving horses shut down."

"We are also insisting that this stoppage remain in full effect pending a complete, thorough, and comprehensive investigation," the American Humane Association said in a statement. It noted that the accident didn't occur during filming or racing.

The animal was being led to a Santa Anita Park racetrack stable by a groom when it reared and fell back Tuesday morning, suffering a head injury, according to HBO. The horse was euthanized at the track in suburban Arcadia, where "Luck" is filming its second season.

In the series, which was created by David Milch ("Deadwood," "NYPD Blue") and looks at racing's seedier side, Dustin Hoffman plays a crime kingpin who's scheming to gain control of a racetrack and introduce casino gambling.

During season-one filming in 2010 and 2011, two horses were hurt during racing scenes and euthanized. HBO defended its treatment of the animals, saying it's worked with the American Humane Association and racing industry experts to implement safety protocols that exceed film and TV industry standards.

The American Humane Association's film and TV unit, the group sanctioned and supported by the entertainment industry to protect animals used in filming, called for a production halt at the Santa Anita Racetrack in suburban Arcadia after the second horse's death.

Racing resumed after new protocols were put in place and proved effective, Karen Rosa, the AHA unit's senior vice president, said in February.

On Tuesday, Dr. Gary Beck, a California Horse Racing Board veterinarian, said he had just examined the horse as part of routine health and safety procedures before it was to race later in the day. The horse passed the inspection, the AHA said.

"The horse was on her way back to the stall when she reared, flipped over backwards, and struck her head on the ground," Beck said in a statement. An attending veterinarian determined that euthanasia was appropriate, he said.

Dr. Rick Arthur, medical director of the state racing board, said such injuries occur in stable areas every year and are more common than thought. A necropsy will be conducted, he said, which is routine with all fatalities at racing board enclosures.

    Calvin Johnson signs $132M deal

The Detroit Lions signed star receiver Calvin Johnson to a seven-year extension Wednesday, the team announced on its Twitter account.

An NFL source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that the contract is worth $132 million and includes $60 million guaranteed. Johnson's contract is the richest deal ever for an NFL wide receiver, exceeding the $120 million deal Larry Fitzgerald signed with the Arizona Cardinals last year.

The extension puts Johnson under contract with the Lions through the 2019 season. The team is holding a news conference at 1 p.m. ET.

He was set to enter the final season of the deal he signed as the No. 2 pick overall in the 2007 draft.

Johnson earned All-Pro honors for the first time last season with a league-best 1,681 yards receiving. He followed up with 211 yards receiving against New Orleans in the playoffs, setting a league record for a player in his postseason debut.

Courtney Love: Muppets 'Raped' Kurt Cobain By Using Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'

Courtney Love has told TMZ that the Muppets "raped" the memory of her late husband Kurt Cobain by using Nirvana's hit "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in their 2011 movie.

The eccentric Hole frontwoman claims that she has absolute control over the usage of Cobain's catalog, but she might not be telling the whole story. Love apparently sold half of her remaining rights to the music to Primary Wave Music and gave the company the exclusive right to distribute Nirvana's complete catalog.

Not only did the company have the legal standing to license the song for the barbershop quartet rendition in the movie, but it even sought and obtained permission from Nirvana's surviving members, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic. Even better? Grohl is in the movie.

In 2005, Love sold 25 percent of the rights to the Nirvana catalog, pocketing a cool $50 million in the process. Five years later, she was offered $162 million for the rest of her majority stake, an offer she said she was considering because the songs and their royalties were "cursed."

Regardless of what Love owns and what she has sold, both she and her daughter will likely still benefit financially from the inclusion of the 1991 song in "The Muppets."

Love's loose usage of the word "rape" recalls another recent scandal. Actress Kim Novak set off a firestorm of controversy in January by saying she felt as though she was raped while watching "The Artist." The Oscar-winning film used a score from "Vertigo," an Alfred Hitchcock film in which she acted.

"It was very painful. When I said it was like a rape, that was how it felt to me," Novak said last week when clarifying her comments. "I had experienced in my youth being raped, and so I identified with a real act that had been done to me. I didn't use the word lightly. I had been raped as a child. It was a rape I never told about, so when I experienced this one, I felt the need to express it."

Peyton Manning’s final list of four teams includes Denver Broncos

The Denver Post reports Peyton Manning has narrowed his list of free agent destinations to four teams and could make a decision as early as Wednesday. The Denver Broncos are reportedly one of Manning's top two choices. The Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans are rumored to be next on the list, in varying order. Manning could also pull a last-minute surprise and sign with the Arizona Cardinals.

Other teams that were interested, like the San Francisco 49ers and Houston Texans, are not expected to be in the running. The possibility of a team emerging out of left field to sign the quarterback remains small, mainly because Manning's courtship has been largely conducted in the public eye.

The four-time MVP was released by the Indianapolis Colts on March 7. Since then, he's turned the tables on free-agent wooing, vetting the teams himself instead of the other way around. Reports are that Manning spent six hours with each team. He was interested in personnel, philosophies and team direction. He called around the NFL to check out the reputations of potential teammates like Brandon Marshall (who was later traded from the Miami Dolphins to to the Chicago Bears) and scouted destinations with his wife and twins in mind.

The end of the process will reset the natural order. Manning will now have to hear what his final list of teams can do for him in terms of guaranteed money, contract length, assurances and team restructuring.

Will he choose the freedom of Denver, where John Fox is expected to give him free rein over the offense? Or will the cold weather and altitude keep him away?

Will he make a triumphant return to Nashville, near where he starred in as a college quarterback for the Tennessee Volunteers? Titans owner Bud Adams has made no secret of his desire to acquire the quarterback and teaming up with running back Chris Johnson could bring back to mind Manning's early days with Edgerrin James.

Or will Peyton follow the recent trend of athletes and take his talents to South Beach? Miami was the early front-runner for Manning's services and were long thought to be the best fit. Did the trade of Brandon Marshall help or harm the team's chances?

Westerners Are Not And Will Never Be The 'Saviors' Of Africa

I was thrilled to watch the KONY 2012 video. I began traveling to LRA territory in northern Uganda and Congo in 2007 and I have seen first-hand the anguish and pain their atrocities have left behind. While in Gulu, Northern Uganda, I visited a site run by Healing Hands where I sat down with more than a hundred LRA abductees. It was there that a young man told me of being forced by the LRA at gunpoint to kill his mother, father and siblings and then being abducted to serve as an LRA soldier. I was awed by the courage, resilience and determination in these children -- and I was inspired to do what I could to help others like them.
    2012-03-14-IMG_1946.jpg
The LRA conflict in Uganda has now ended. Today northeastern Congo bears the brunt of LRA activity (alongside Central African Republic and South Sudan) -- and it was in Congo, several years ago, where the LRA's 'Christmas massacre' took the lives of 400 civilians, and made refugees out of 20,000 more.

Last month, I was in Dungu (in far northeastern Congo) where the LRA militias remain active. I met scores of villagers who had suffered from recent attacks. The local UN military base 'threat level' was four out of five ("five means all-out war," I was told). Just last month several thousand citizens in the region were displaced and several people were killed.

I believe there is no mission more urgent than to help children who are suffering and I applaud Invisible Children for raising the awareness of Kony (and the issue of child soldiers) to such an extraordinary level. The next step after awareness is action. There are many steps that we can take to end this nightmare. Among the most important is funding remarkable local organizations.

Westerners are not and will never be the 'saviors' of Africa. That idea has been tried and found wanting. It is ineffectual at best and deadly at worst. The organization I founded, Eastern Congo Initiative, funds Congolese-led organizations that rescue child soldiers from the bush and provides them with education, medical assistance, job training, and counseling. We support the work being done by highly capable and determined Congolese, to make their communities a better place.

Joseph Kony has been one of the most infamous and most wanted men in Africa for decades. His vicious cruelty has caused untold pain over the last twenty years. Because of Invisible Children, a hundred million more people in North America now know his story.

8 Surprising Ways to Hurt Your Career

While most career advice focuses on how to succeed, we can all learn valuable lessons by dissecting career failure as well. Workplace experts offer insights into some of the top ways workers undermine their own careers and jeopardize their career development.
    1. Not Taking Your Education Seriously

If you party too much in college and end up with a run-of-the-mill 2.5 GPA, you’ll be passed over for the best entry-level jobs, says New York City-based executive recruiter and coach Brian Drum of Drum Associates. Not finishing your master’s degree is another way to hurt your career development goals, adds Anne Angerman, a career coach with Denver-based Career Matters.

    2. Not Having a Plan

In the current poor job market, you may have defaulted into a career you aren’t crazy about. That’s OK, as long as you develop career plans to get where you want to be. “Think of every job you take as a stepping-stone to your next job,” Drum advises.

    3. Lying

You’ll lose professional credibility in a hurry if you lie, from exaggerating on your resume to getting caught fibbing on Facebook. “If someone calls in sick to work and then that evening posts a photo on Facebook of their extra day vacationing in Cabo San Lucas, that’s a big problem,” says corporate etiquette specialist Diane Gottsman of the Protocol School of Texas in San Antonio.

    4. Sullying Your Reputation on Facebook or Twitter

Social media can harm your reputation in other ways, too. Personal posts and tweets from work -- when you’re supposed to be doing your job -- can tag you as a slacker. And the content of your posts or tweets can come back to haunt you as well -- you never know who might stumble upon those bachelor-party photos. “You need to assume that every boss and potential employer knows how to use Facebook, Twitter and MySpace, and post from the standpoint that everyone is watching even if in reality they’re not,” Gottsman says.

    5. Not Respecting Professional Boundaries

Sharing TMI about your personal life with colleagues is unprofessional. “Your coworkers don’t want to hear about your fights with your husband,” Angerman says. On the other hand, if you’re ultraprivate and work with a chatty group, join the conversations occasionally so coworkers don’t resent you.

    6. Gossiping, Slandering, Excessively Criticizing

If you publicly bash fellow employees, the boss, the board of directors or even your competitors, you’ll be perceived as negative at best and a troublemaker at worst. The ramifications can be broad and long term, Gottsman says. “Industries are tight,” she says. “You don’t want to be the one who started that rumor about the head of your industry.” As far as bad-mouthing competitors -- what if your company merges with a competitor, or you want to work for one someday?

    7. Carrying on an Inappropriate Relationship with Your Boss

A romantic entanglement with a boss can do real damage to your ability to collaborate with peers. "When you get involved in a drama or in something unethical that can be brought out in the open, you're asking for trouble," Gottsman says. Even getting too chummy with a boss can cause jealousy (as well as other potential problems). When it comes to your boss, keeping things professional is always the wiser choice.

    8. Not Controlling Your Alcohol Intake or Libido

Getting drunk at the office party or on a business trip damages your credibility. Ditto a romantic, ahem, “indiscretion” that your colleagues know about.

NFL Star Brandon Marshall DENIES Punching Woman In the FACE at Nightclub

NFL superstar wide receiver Brandon Marshall -- who was JUST traded to the Chicago Bears -- has denied punching a woman in the face at a NY nightclub ... despite detailed reports to the contrary.

According to reports, Marshall was outside of a club in Chelsea, NY around 4AM Sunday morning ... when he got into an argument with a group of people ... and allegedly threw a punch that connected with 24-year-old Christin Myles. It's unclear if Marshall intended to strike the woman ... or if she was collateral damage as Brandon was trying to hit someone else .

Either way, Myles says she suffered a black eye ... and filed a police report the next day. According to the NY Post, Myles was nervous about filing because of Brandon's high profile status.

But Marshall's lawyer says the 6'4", 230-pounder did NOT strike Myles ... however, he claims Brandon's wife was injured in a DIFFERENT brawl that went down at the club.

Attorney Harvey Steinberg explains, “While attempting to leave to avoid the melee, [Marshall’s wife] was struck in the face by a thrown bottle. She suffered serious injury." He continued, "The mayhem continued outside.’’

David Axelrod bails on Bill Maher

David Axelrod will not be appearing as a guest on “Real Time with Bill Maher,” despite reports last week that he was scheduled to do the show in the next few weeks.

“He's not scheduled to go on at this time,” said Ben LaBolt, the press secretary for President Obama’s reelection campaign.

Maher, who donated $1 million to the pro-Obama super PAC Priorities USA, has increasingly become a target of right-wing attacks over the last week in response to the left’s attacks on Rush Limbaugh. Maher has come under fire for calling Sarah Palin a “c**t” during his stand-up act and a “dumb tw**t” on his HBO show, among other sexist comments.

Axelrod has used the Limbaugh affair to attack Mitt Romney, slamming him for having “essentially refused to comment on what was a really egregious set of comments by Limbaugh” and saying “he’s afraid to challenge a guy who’s the de-facto head of his party.”

The Daily noted this when reporting last Wednesday that, according to an HBO spokeswoman, Axelrod was scheduled to appear on Maher’s show in the coming weeks.

Axelrod’s cold feet are not the only sign that the right’s attacks on Maher seem to be gaining some traction.

Billionaire Says Her Kids Aren’t Fit for Inheritance

If you ask the rich about the biggest problem created from their wealth, they will usually say their kids.

Most of today’s self-made rich didn’t grow up with money (surveys show 75% of millionaires didn’t inherit their wealth). And today’s rich parents expect their kids to grow up with middle-class values– just as they did.

It’s a noble goal. But when those parents are flying the kids around on a private jet or giving them a Mercedes for their Sweet 16, it should come as no surprise that their kids lack the same work ethic and hustle as a middle-class kid.

And so wealthy parents today face an inevitable choice: leaving boatloads of money to kids who aren’t good with money.

Gina Rinehart, the Australian mining billionaire, has cracked open the debate with a strange court battle winding its way through the Australian legal system. In short, Ms. Rinehart inherited a mining empire from her dad. Her three kids were also left with a stake in the family trust. Yet Ms. Rinehart shut them out of their ownership stakes, and now the kids are fighting back.

Court documents cited in the Australian media show that Ms. Rinehart believed the kids weren’t fit to manage their fortune. She said none had ever held a real job, unless it was given to them by the family. “None of the plaintiffs (her children) has the requisite capacity or skill, nor the knowledge, experience, judgment or responsible work ethic to administer a trust in the nature of the trust in particular as part of the growing HPPL Group,” she claimed in court papers.

She added that the kids are “manifestly unsuitable” to manage the fund and that it would be in the “best interests of the beneficiaries to force them to go to work.”

Railway Budget 2012: Dinesh Trivedi defies Mamata, says country comes first

Unfazed by the attack on him by his own party for raising rail fares, Railway minister Dinesh Trivedi today justified the move saying it was a "conscious decision" in the best interest of the Railways.

Talking to Times Now, Trivedi said that nation comes first, family second and party third. When asked whether he would quit as railway minister, he said, "No comments." His party Trinamool Congress was upset with the fare hike proposal and demanded a rollback.

Earlier, in a press conference after the presenting the Railway Budget, he said the party leadership was not aware of the provisions made in the Railway Budget.

"It is a very big misconception that the Railways is run from the Writer's Building (headquarters of West Bengal government). She (Banerjee) did not know anything at all and there was no interference by her in any aspect of the budget," Trivedi said in reply to a volley of questions after he presented his maiden Railway Budget in Parliament.

Asked about Trinamool Congress leader Sudip Bandopadhyay's demand for a rollback of the fare hike, he said, "Political parties have a right to their philosophy. There is nothing wrong in it."

"Whatever decisions we have taken are conscious decisions, which we have taken with full responsibility in the interests of the Indian Railways and the country." He said Mamata Banerjee only spoke as chief minister of a state about projects relating to Bengal, like any other chief minister.

    Sources: Bucks deal Andrew Bogut

The Milwaukee Bucks have traded Bogut and forward Stephen Jackson to the Golden State Warriors for Monta Ellis, Ekpe Udoh and Kwame Brown, sources confirmed to ESPN.com.

Bogut was drafted first overall by Milwaukee in the 2005 draft and has averaged 12.7 points and 9.3 rebounds over his now seven-year career.

Bogut's durability has been called into question as the 7-foot Australian has not played since injuring his left ankle in a game Jan. 25.

In return, the Bucks welcome the instant offense that Ellis provides to pair with star point guard Brandon Jennings.

Ellis, a veteran also in his seventh year, has career averages of 19.6 points and 4.4 assists and is already used to sharing the backcourt with a dynamic player, having worked alongside Stephen Curry since the 2009 season.

The Warriors are also bringing back a fan favorite in landing Jackson. The volatile veteran was a key player on the Golden State squad that knocked out the top-seeded Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the 2007 playoffs.

Discovery Terminates Relationship With 'Man vs. Wild' Star Bear Grylls

Discovery Channel has terminated its relationship with Bear Grylls, the British television personality and star of the network’s Man vs. Wild. The severing of the relationship, which began back in 2006 when Man vs. Wild launched on Discovery, comes after the network has allegedly been unable to get Grylls to participate in two unannounced projects he was contracted for, say sources. The sixth season of Man vs. Wild wrapped in August.

“Due to a continuing contractual dispute with Bear Grylls, Discovery has terminated all current productions with him,” a network spokesperson tells The Hollywood Reporter.

A representative for Grylls confirmed that the Man Vs. Wild star has parted ways with Discovery.

"Bear's goal has always been to make life-empowering shows for his many fans around the globe, and he has taken great risks to bring Discovery such award-winning programming over seven seasons," said Heather Krug in a statement to THR. "Unfortunately, Bear and Discovery have not been able to come to mutual agreement on new programming, and he disagrees with Discovery's decision to terminate current productions. Bear has loved the Man vs. Wild journey and looks forward to producing further cutting-edge content again soon for his loyal audience."

This is not the first time Discovery has had a disagreement with its talent. In 2010, the network sued Deadliest Catch Captains Jonathan and Andy Hillstrand for allegedly failing to complete work on the spinoff Hillstranded. The $3 million lawsuit prompted the Hillstrands and Captain Sig Hansen to quit, though a month later the dispute was settled, the suit was dropped and all three returned to work on the show.

Grylls, 37, has parlayed his fame as an extreme outdoorsman into an international media career. He’s written nearly a dozen books, many of them survival guides. His memoir Mud, Sweat and Tears – due to be published in the U.S. in May – already is a best-seller in England and Australia. He’s landed numerous endorsement deals including with Dockers and Degree deodorant. There's a Man vs. Wild video game, he has an iPhone app, and his clothing line is sold at REI and Walmart.

Stephen Hawking to guest star on 'Big Bang Theory'

LOS ANGELES, March 12 (TheWrap.com) - "The Big Bang Theory" is getting a visit from Stephen Hawking.

The renowned theoretical physicist will guest-star on the April 5 episode of the CBS comedy, the network said Monday. In the cameo, Hawking visits uber-geek Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) at work "to share his beautiful mind with his most ardent admirer," according to CBS.

Executive producer Bill Prady said that having Hawking on the show had long been a goal, though it seemed unattainable.

When people would ask us who a ‘dream guest star' for the show would be, we would always joke and say Stephen Hawking - knowing that it was a long shot of astronomical proportions," Prady said. "In fact, we're not exactly sure how we got him. It's the kind of mystery that could only be understood by, say, a Stephen Hawking."

This came after Vinay Kumar dismissed Nuwan Kulasekara and Chamara Kapugedera in successive deliveries to dent Sri Lanka chase.

Ravichandran Ashwin scalped Kumar Sangakkara and Lahiru Thirimanne to put India on top.

Sangakkara played a patient knock of 65 that came in 87 balls included two fours and a six. Four balls later Ashwin struck to claim his third wicket he caught Thirimanne plumb in front of the wicket.

Irfan Pathan and Ravichandran Ashwin struck to dismiss Mahela Jayawardene and Dinesh Chandimal respectively in the Asia Cup clash against Sri Lanka at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

Ashwin claimed in-form Chandimal to take his first wicket and gave India their third wicket. Chandimal could manage to score 13 runs.

Pathan removed dangerous Mahela Jayawardene to get India back into the match after the batsman entertained with his 78 off just 59 balls, smashing 10 boundaries and two huge sixes. Skipper also added 93 runs stand for the second wicket with Kumar Sangakkara to lead Sri Lanka chase.

Pathan ended Jayawardene's flamboyant knock when the batsman tried to run it to third man on a widish delivery that went to MS Dhoni's gloves.

Jayawardene took only 40 deliveries to reach his 66th ODI half-century studded with seven fours and two sixes.

Earlier, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli notched up tons to steer India to 304/3 in their first match of the Asia Cup campaign.

Late heroics by skipper MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina did the rest after Gambhir and Kohli centuries to post the mammoth total on the board.

Vice-captain Kohli's 10th ODI ton came in 115 balls that included six fours. Two balls later former vice-captain Gambhir also reached to his 10th ODI hundred in 116 balls with the help of seven boundaries.

Kohli also became the quickest batsman to score 10 ODI tons - in just 80 innings and 82 matches.

Jon Hamm and Kim Kardashian have the most attractive disagreement in Hollywood

Kim Kardashian might be used to this sort of thing. After all, the ubiquitous reality star has earned her fair share of criticism about everything from her 72-day marriage to her offensively exorbitant lifestyle to her family’s general terribleness. Having already been called a ‘f—ing idiot’ by Daniel Craig, Kim should have suspected that other classy, handsome Hollywood gents might feel the same way. In fact, in an interview with Elle UK Jon Hamm found the same words for her. (And Paris Hilton, for that matter. Remember her, you guys? Guys?)

“Whether it’s Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian or whoever, stupidity is certainly celebrated,” the Mad Men star told the magazine, adding, “Being a f—ing idiot is a valuable commodity in this culture because you’re rewarded significantly….It’s celebrated. It doesn’t make sense to me.”

While Jonah Hill would most certainly agree (the Moneyball actor griped to The Huffington Post, “The fact that the Kardashians could be more popular than a show like Mad Men is disgusting”) Kim took offense to the statement. Opting to take the high road — or, in this case Twitter — Kardashian responded, “I just heard about the comment Jon Hamm made about me in an interview. I respect Jon and I am a firm believer that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that not everyone takes the same path in life. We’re all working hard and we all have to respect one another. Calling someone who runs their own businesses, is a part of a successful TV show, produces, writes, designs, and creates, “stupid,” is in my opinion careless.” READ MORE

Target of 305 runs Sri Lanka, Kohli - Gambhir of the Splendid Century

India set a challenging target of 305 against Sri Lanka after Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir slammed centuries in their opening One-Day International match of the Asia Cup 2012.

Kohli and Gambhir added 205 runs for the second wicket to strengthen India’s position in the game, after Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene opted to field first at the Shere Bangla Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday.

Sri Lanka bowler Suranga Lakmal jolted India early when he had star India batsman Sachin Tendulkar caught by Mahela Jayawardene for six.

Tendulkar faced 19 balls and hit a boundary before being dismissed in the sixth over.

Kohli then joined forces with Gambhir as they solidified Indian innings, batting for the next 37 overs.

Gambhir struck eight boundaries to complete his 10th ODI century, which came off 118 balls.

Kohli too completed his 10th ODI hundred, hitting 108 off 120 balls with the help of seven boundaries.

With this knock, Kohli became the quickest batsman to hit 10 or more ODI hundreds, which came off in 80 innings.

Towards the end, Mahendra Singh Dhoni played a rapid knock of 46 off 26 balls hitting six boundaries and a six to push India past 300.

Suresh Raina remained unbeaten on 30 off 17 balls hitting three boundaries and a six.

Farveez Maharoof was Sri Lanka's most successful bowler bagging two wickets for 57 runs.

    Miley Cyrus Debuts Belly-Baring Dress

Miley Cyrus came out to support her boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth, at the 'Hunger Games' world premiere in Los Angeles. The singer arrived in a two-piece red carpet outfit. Recent belly-baring dresses from Rooney Mara and Gwyneth Paltrow prompted comments like "I dream of Jeannie," so no surprise critics are already weighing in on Miley's unconventional choice.

E! Online labeled the Pucci dress "skimpy" and she was called out on Twitter for wearing a glittery bustier and "gypsy skirt," while others are already praising her unconventional choice and saying she "makes it work."

Miley added an unusual touch when it came to jewelry, as well, and wore a bracelet chained to a ring. She completed the look with a very specific shoe choice. "His mom made me wear stilts," Miley explained, saying her boyfriend Liam's mom steered her towards sky-high Christian Louboutin heels. "I'm like five feet, so I need my 'Liam shoes.'"

The couple, who have a foot of height difference between them, walked the black carpet together and appeared closer than ever. Miley even offered up some advice for Liam after spending years in the spotlight, saying she emphasizes staying close to the people who love you for who you truly are.

Miley went on to say the two try to keep the fame out of their relationship, and explained that this will be the first time she sees Liam onscreen as Gale Hawthorne. The 19-year-old added that she was happy to be there to support him for this particular movie, since she knows her boyfriend is very excited about the part. And for the premiere, Miley had a much simpler role in mind: "I just have to be arm candy tonight."

Farming communities facing crisis over nitrate pollution, study says

Nitrate contamination in groundwater from fertilizer and animal manure is severe and getting worse for hundreds of thousands of residents in California’s Central Valley farming communities, according to a study released Tuesday by researchers at the University of California, Davis.

Nearly 10 percent of the 2.6 million people living in the Tulare Lake Basin and Salinas Valley might be drinking nitrate-contaminated water, researchers found. And if nothing is done to stem the problem, the report warns, nearly 80 percent of residents could be at risk of health and financial problems by 2050.

High nitrate levels in drinking water are known to cause thyroid cancer, skin rashes, hair loss, birth defects and “blue baby syndrome,” a potentially fatal blood disorder in infants.
The report is the most comprehensive assessment so far of nitrate contamination in California’s agricultural areas.

“The problem is much, much, much worse than we thought,” said Angela Schroeter, agricultural regulatory program manager for the Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board, a state water agency.
Nitrate-contaminated water is a well-documented fact in many of California’s farming communities.
The agricultural industry, however, has maintained that it is not solely responsible because nitrates come from many sources. While the report focused on California, nitrates in groundwater is a problem that plagues farming communities around the U.S.
But, according to the UC Davis report, 96 percent of nitrate contamination comes from agriculture, while only 4 percent can be traced to water treatment plants, septic systems, food processing, landscaping and other sources.

Obama And Hollywood: Democrats Still Giving To Obama, But Not To Super PACs

Looks like Barack Obama's star power hasn't dimmed after all.

In 2008, Hollywood insiders donated $9.2 million to the presidential hopeful's campaign. This year, despite much talk of softening support among entertainment professionals, they are expected to contribute even more.

According to Michael Janofksy of TheWrap, Tom Hanks, George Clooney, Alec Baldwin and many other major figures have already maxed out their $5,000 personal contribution limits.

The trouble, for Obama, is that many in Hollywood do not want to dirty their hands with contributions to Super PACs, the controversial new groups that can accept unlimited donations as long as they don't direct their funds to a single candidate. Many Democrats have criticized Super PACs for giving wealthy donors outsize influence over the political process -- and if there's one thing Hollywood heavyweights understand, it's the power of bad publicity.

Jeffrey Katzenberg and Stephen Bing have waded into the Super PAC waters, but other big names are opting instead to bundle donations to the Obama campaign itself. The Wrap cites statistics gathered by the Center for Responsive Politics (often referred to as Open Secrets), which values producer Harvey Weinstein's bundle at $688,026 and agent Ari Emanuel's at $447,290.

Over the past year, reports of declining overall donations to Democrats (a $2.5 million decrease year over year at the end of 2011) and sharp criticism of the President from the likes of Matt Damon have created the impression that Obama was losing his hold on Hollywood.

The Obama campaign responded by sending a former ambassador to Los Angeles to set up a series of high-profile fundraisers.

TheWrap notes that Obama's latest fundraising trip was meant to raise $3 million and ended up bringing in $4 million. The dinners, hosted at the home of soap opera producer Bradley Bell, featured celebrity hosts, including Will Ferrell and his wife, Viveca Paulin. Tickets were priced at $35,800 each.

Meryl Streep As Hilary Clinton: Should The 'Iron Lady' Actress Play The Secretary Of State?

Meryl Streep is fresh off her Oscar win for playing Margaret Thatcher. But she had an entire theater at Lincoln Center wondering if an even better role for her would be a political icon closer to home: Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The question arose as Streep paid a glowing and affectionate tribute to the secretary of state at the Women in the World summit, an annual gathering of prominent women leaders and unsung heroines from across the globe that closed over the weekend.

"This is what you get when you play a world leader," Streep said Saturday, hoisting up her best-actress Oscar for "The Iron Lady."

"But if you want a real world leader," Streep continued, "THIS is what you get!" Clinton strolled onstage at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts' David H. Koch Theater, and Streep enveloped her in a hug.

The three-day summit, now in its third year, is organized by Tina Brown, editor in chief of Newsweek and The Daily Beast. Besides Streep and Clinton, feminist icon Gloria Steinem and former secretary of state Madeleine Albright, Brown harnessed the star power of Angelina Jolie, who came to read the words of Dr. Hawa Abdi, a Somali humanitarian facing danger from Islamist rebels there.

Also given star treatment was International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde, who delighted the delegates at dinner Thursday when she suggested that the financial crisis might have been averted, or at least been much less serious, if more women had been at the helm of financial institutions.

"If Lehman Brothers had been a bit more Lehman Sisters ... we would not have had the degree of tragedy that we had as a result of what happened," Lagarde said.

She added that recent studies have shown "what the level of testosterone in a given room can produce when you do trading."

Many global problems were addressed by the dozens of panels attended by some 2,000 delegates each day. But a constant undercurrent was an issue at home: the debate in Washington over women's reproductive health care.

Clinton and other speakers referred, obliquely and not, to conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh's insulting remarks about law student Sandra Fluke, who came under attack after she testified to congressional Democrats in support of their national health care policy that would compel her Catholic college's health insurance plan to cover birth control.

The 2011 Nobel Peace Prize winner Leymah Gbowee, of Liberia, was the most blunt, saying women had been too passive: "Where are the angry American women?" she asked.

Breast-Crazed Hacker Steals Naked Phone Photos of Christina Hendricks and Olivia Munn Glee Star

The images—grainy and certainly phone-birthed—range from salacious to full on bare-breasted, and appear to have been taken on both a phone and webcam. Hendricks' people deny on the fully nude shot. Munn, on the other hand? Who knows! Does she have a publicity rep, or do her creepy nerd fanboys speak for her through Reddit? We're awaiting a statement. We do know that her pics—allegedly intended for a boyfriend at the time—date back to 2009, and were taken on two different BlackBerries, judging by EXIF data stored inside the images.
The shots appear to have been taken with an iPhone 3GS, based on EXIF data, and thanks to our modern era of embedded GPS, we know at least one of the racy pics was taken directly inside Paramount's studios.

    Full size
But the lesson here remains the same. As we said when this happened to ScarJo: If You Are Famous and Take Nude Photos of Yourself, They Will End Up on the Internet. As impossibly good looking people, pictures of your impossibly attractive body are coveted by legions of Internet People who want to look at them briefly, email them around, grin, high five, and then go back to work. And there are a select few with the guile to yank those photos off your phone—where they are certainly not safe:

Once directed to the malicious site, the phone's web browser and operating system can be silently compromised. Imagine something like jailbreakme.com, which swiftly frees your iPhone of Apple's customization restrictions. Except instead of inviting a program into your phone to help you free it from Apple's beautiful bondage, you've actually invited in a Trojan horse filled with horribleness. A maliciously crafted file creeping from the site to your phone could add code to your phone's web browser and operating system. That code could persuade it to do things it usually wouldn't want to do, like shipping out photos to unintended recipients.

More likely, though-and more applicable to you and me-security experts suspect that someone broke into an online service that stored the pictures, not the phone itself. (In other words, no Swordfish antics here. Your BlackBerrys and iPhones are safe!) If she emailed the pics to the person she intended to please, or used a photo syncing service to send her photos to the cloud for sharing, a simple compromised password or a lame security question is all it took to give the hacker entry.

So, yes, here they are. Enjoy, be outraged, hide your child's eyes. But whatever you do, do this:

Israel and Gaza militants 'agree' truce after clashes

The official was quoted as saying that the Egyptian-mediated truce took effect at 01:00 local time (23:00 GMT Monday).

A Hamas official later confirmed to the BBC that the truce had been agreed.

At least 25 Palestinians have died in Israeli air strikes since Friday, reports say. Israel says 35 people were injured in Palestinian rocket attacks.

The Egyptian official - who spoke on condition of anonymity - was quoted by Reuters as saying late on Monday that both Israel and Gaza militants had "agreed to end the current operations".

Shortly afterwards, the Hamas official confirmed the truce.

The official told the BBC that Israel had made an unusual promise to stop targeting militant leaders in Gaza, if rocket attacks on Israel ceased.

Israel has not publicly commented on the reported ceasefire.

The cross-border violence was triggered by an Israeli air strike on Friday that killed a senior leader of the militant group, the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), who Israel said had been planning an attack.

Militants in Gaza responded quickly by unleashing a barrage of rockets towards southern Israel, triggering further air strikes.

Most of those killed in Gaza were militants, but several civilians also died, Palestinian medical sources say.

The US has condemned the rocket attacks as "cowardly"; the Arab League called the Israeli air strikes "a massacre".

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has expressed grave concern over the flare-up in violence, describing rocket attacks on Israeli civilians as "unacceptable" and urging Israel to "exercise maximum restraint".

Six-Year-Old Canucks Fan Does LMFAO Right

When you think of LMFAO, you think of DJs, rappers, club-goers, and party rockers.

But you really should be thinking of 6-year-old Canucks fans.

    One in particular: Jack Millos.

The adorable Vancouver supporter stole the spotlight a few nights ago by busting some rather impressive moves to LMFAO's "Sexy And I Know It."

Watch his intense concentration, coupled with rhythm that rivals anything from this year's Super Bowl halftime show ...

Jack's older sister is responsible for teaching him how to dance, though she says the talent comes pretty naturally. As for the song choice, Millos' parents aren't too worried that the lyrics, "Look at that body" are going to corrupt their son. After all, his school allowed him to dance to the same tune in the talent show.

READ FULL STORY

READ MORE

No Need to Install Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows 8

After the release of Windows 8 Consumer Preview, lot many reviews started appearing on web. Some of them are really good, especially in talking about the new features and metro style apps. Apart from the visible features, Microsoft has also worked on the security enhancements of their operating system. As we know, malware and virus attacks are very common on Windows PC as compared to the other OS. It becomes necessary to install a third-party security application for protection from these attacks.

Most of the branded Windows PC comes with pre-installed third-party software (either trial version of license of one year). After the expiration period, if the user doesn’t renew the package, the system becomes vulnerable. This is a very common issue with home or small business users.

Couple of years ago, Microsoft released their own protection suite named ‘Microsoft Security Essentials’ which promised to protect from malware, virus attacks. It was not an easy task for Microsoft to provide the security level as high as other OS or even compete with the third-party services like Norton in online data theft protection. But the product was awesome and it got so many positive reviews on web even when it is available for FREE to use on computers running genuine windows copy.

    Microsoft Security Essentials

Now from Windows 8 onwards, Microsoft Security Essentials will not be required, and even any third-party security suite will not be necessary for normal home PC security. The native security suite of Windows named ‘Windows Defender’ is now so much capable that there is no need of any other software for the same purpose.

    Happy birthday to Shreya Ghoshal

Shreya Ghoshal started her singing career at the age of 16, when Sanjay Leela Bhansali spotted her on the sets of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. He was so mesmerised by the young singer’s voice that he made her an offer instantly: to be the voice of Paro in Devdas, in 2000. The film released a couple of years later and Shreya picked up several awards – including a National Award and a Filmfare trophy – for the Best Playback Singer (female). The time when only one or two singers ruled the musical roost is today a thing of the past and a huge number of singers have come and gone in the last decade, but Shreya has managed to hold her own, growing into one of the top playback singers of the industry. We look at some of the iconic songs that established her as one of the most remarkable and versatile singers of this generation….

Dola re, Bairi piya and Silsila ye chahat ka – Devdas

While Dola re (a duet Shreya sang with Kavita Krishnamurthy) got Shreya several awards, Silsila… and Bairi piya were her first solos. As soon as the music of Devdas was out, it was clear that the young singer had great potential.

Jaadu hai nasha hai – Jism

The sensuality and soothing texture of her voice won her accolades for this one, considered to be one of the sexiest songs of all time.

Yeh ishq hai -Jab We Met

This song became hugely popular and it is one of the most fun and melodious songs she has sung.

    Piyu bole – Parineeta

Shreya, with Sonu Nigam for company (the two have created magic on several occasions), sang this melodiously romantic song with total sweetness and innocence.

Ooh la la – The Dirty Picture

This one had to have an 80s feel and Vishal-Shekhar felt that Shreya could bring out the sexiness while keeping the old world charm alive. It became one of the biggest hits of her career.

    Chikni Chameli- Agneepath

Shreya’s first out and out item number, Chikni Chameli is a fast-paced number. Not many believe that Shreya is capable of singing a high-voltage tune. But she proved that she can bring forth energy and naughtiness when a song demands it!

Beyonce And Jay-Z Support The Dream; Pair Spend Their Sunday At R&B Singers's Concert In NYC

It was Sunday "fun day" for Beyonce and Jay-Z: The new parents enjoyed a concert by R&B singer The-Dream in New York.

The top music couple jammed to the singer-songwriter in the VIP section of SOB's, a small club that houses a few hundred people.

The-Dream co-wrote and co-produced Beyonce's massive hit "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)." He also worked his magic on Rihanna's "Umbrella," Justin Bieber's "Baby" and "Touch My Body" by Mariah Carey.

He performed a number of his own hits Sunday night, including "Shawty Is a 10," "Falsetto" and "I Luv Your Girl." He'll release his fourth album, "Love IV MMXII," later this year.

The Grammy winner thanked the crowd for coming out, saying: "I know some of ya'll got kids at home."

Alejandra Gaitain And YouTube ‘Reply Girls'

You may not recognize Alejandra Gaitan’s face, but her voice and especially a certain area of her body have won her millions of views (and a number of sponsorships) on YouTube. Gaitan, who calls herself “The Reply Girl,” has carved out a career making YouTube videos commenting on other videos on the site. While a major source of YouTube’s democratic appeal is that everyone from your grandmother to a preteen can upload and discuss videos, Gaitan’s unconventional methods have earned her both advertising dollars and, now, a death threat.

Gawker’s Max Read describes the method Gaitan uses to get views:

... she copies the original video's tags and secures herself a spot on its page. Her shirts do the heavy lifting of bringing people to the video, and then a quirk in YouTube's "related videos" algorithm kicks in: when viewers register their dislike of Gaitan's video en masse with the "thumbs down" button, it actually drives the video further up the "related videos" ranking. This makes sense — if the Speaker of the House makes a reply to President Obama, Democrats will hit "dislike," but his video is still a legitimate reply — but it can allow for deeply-hated videos to climb to prominent placement.

His reference to her shirts is an understatement: Filmed in what appears to be a bedroom, the camera in Gaitan’s videos cuts off part of her forehead in favor of focusing in on her prominent breasts, which in video thumbnails are often framed by a low-cut shirt -- a tease Read refers to elsewhere in his piece as a “YouTube Porn Fakeout.”

Gaitan’s isn’t the only "reply girl" on YouTube. The Daily Dot defines the phenomenon as “young women -- some young enough to still be in high school -- who make videos in low-cut tops and push-up bras. Rather than baring their souls, they’re baring that age-old device often used to get attention: cleavage.”

Nicolle Wallace: 'Game Change' Was 'True Enough To Make Me Squirm'

Sarah Palin has dismissed "Game Change" as unimportant, but a top aide says the HBO film about her 2008 vice-presidential bid was "true enough to make me squirm."

Nicolle Wallace, a senior advisor to the campaign, was assigned to work with Palin after she was chosen as John McCain's running mate and later wrote a novel with a mentally-ill character inspired by the former Alaska governor.

"This is a movie about the vast gray area where 99 percent of our politics actually takes place,” Wallace told "This Week" on Sunday. “You’re just feeling your way though a gray area and doing your best and that campaign was one of those instances for me."

Wallace has previously butted heads with Palin and once described her as bitter, cynical and aggressive.

"I believe that if she were on the cusp of becoming the nominee for the Republican party a whole lot of people... would talk about some of her more troubling deficiencies," she told MSNBC in 2010. "Her incredible cynicism, her bitterness, her aggressive attempts to claw anyone that points out an area for her to work on, I think these things will continue to reveal herself and the people that love her will continue to love her, but the people who are not so sure about her will, I think, formulate harder opinions and more clarity about her."

John McCain also spoke out about the movie on Sunday.

"Of course I'm not going to watch it," he said Fox News Sunday. "Why there continues to be such an assault on a fine and decent person, Sarah Palin ... They continue to disparage and attack her person. I admire and respect her, I'm proud of our campaign and I'm humbled by the fact that I was able to give her [the Republican vice-presidential nomination]."

Armenia turns away from politics of genocide, begins to embrace realpolitik

The recent cancellation of a genocide bill that had occupied the French national agenda for around three months sparked not only negative reactions from Armenia but also talk that the outcome was the result of the French state bowing to pressure from Turkey.

At the same time, though, Armenia is also asserting that the whole experience has been not a loss but a very good example, and that French President Nicolas Sarkozy is in fact a leader who stands behind his promises.

According to Armenian political authorities and experts, the step taken by France with regards to the 1915 events was very effective in making its mark and also led the larger global public to begin perceiving the “Armenian Genocide” as a great crime against humanity, much the same way the Holocaust is perceived. But while Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian has noted that, for Yerevan, it is enough to simply see the French people staking out their position on the side of human rights, Dashnak Party spokesperson Giro Manoyan has asserted that France wound up bowing to Turkish pressure and said that efforts would be again be exerted towards this end.

And thus not only the events of 1915 but also the Armenian-Azeri clashes on the eve of the collapse of the Soviet Union have been reintroduced to the agenda, with the aim to elicit reverberations from these events on the international platform. One day after the Khojaly march in İstanbul on Feb. 26, perceived by many as an effort to isolate Armenia within the larger region, there was the “Sumgayıt march” in Yerevan. As part of this there were a series of commemorations for the Armenians killed in clashes that occurred in February 1988 in the Azerbaijani city of Sumgayıt, and the Armenian parliament, signaling that it will not allow this tragic event to be erased from the public conscience anywhere, stood for a moment of silence for the people killed in Sumgayıt. At the same time, an effort has been made to label the events in Sumgayıt as “genocide,” with the message being given that there was a purposeful attempt in Azerbaijan to completely eliminate the Armenians living there. Propaganda countering claims about the Khojaly massacre, as well as the introduction of the 1988 events in Sumgayıt, are important signals regarding new items that are being introduced into Armenia's political agenda.READ MORE

NCAA Bracket 2012: How Florida State Basketball Got To March Madness

The Florida State Seminoles were supposed to finish third in the ACC, and that is exactly where they finished in the regular season. However, they finished in that position in extremely disappointing fashion.

Due to the luck of the draw, they didn't have to play the North Carolina Tar Heels in Chapel Hill. The one meeting between the two teams was a slaughter -- FSU won by 33 points in Tallahassee. One week later, the Seminoles beat the Duke Blue Devils at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Improbably, the ACC title appeared to belong to them, but they found a way to throw it away. FSU lost away to a woeful Boston College team on Feb. 8 before later losing to Duke at home and Miami away in successive games. FSU won its two most difficult games of the season, but couldn't beat inferior BC and Miami teams on the road.

Any doubt about whether or not those two victories were flukes was cleared up during the ACC Tournament, as Florida State rolled past Duke and UNC once again on their way to the conference championship. In the process, the Seminoles enter the NCAA Tournament as the No. 3 seed in the East, facing No. 14 St. Bonaventure in their first game.

If any team that faces FSU in the tournament was hoping to come up against a power conference team that doesn't play defense and that might be undone by a bit of physical play, they will be extremely disappointed to end up with Florida State instead. Leonard Hamilton has been successfully pissing off the ACC's flashy offensive players since 2002. When seniors Bernard James and Xavier Gibson aren't banging people around, Michael Snaer and Ian Miller are pretty effective at putting the ball in the hoop.

John Mayer Goes On 'Indefinite Hiatus': Singer's Vocal Cord Injury Forces Him To Cancel Tour

John Mayer announced he's canceling his upcoming tour because of a vocal cord injury.

USA Today reports Mayer broke the news on his blog. He had a granuloma on his vocal cord last fall and it's grown back.

    From Mayer's blog:

This is bad news. Because of this, I have no choice but to take an indefinite break from live performing. Though there will be a day when all of this will be behind me, it will sideline me for a longer period of time than I care to have you count down.

Mayer goes on to explain, "a granuloma forms and continues to snowball because it’s in a spot where the vocal cords hit together and there’s no way to really give it a chance to heal without a good stretch of time and some pretty intensive treatment."

Earlier this month, the "Your Body is a Wonderland" singer announced a release date for his forthcoming album, Born and Raised. It will come out on May 22 and the first single, "Shadow Days," is available now on iTunes.

'Lorax' trumps 'John Carter' with $39.1M weekend

Studio estimates Sunday put Universal Pictures' "The Lorax" at No. 1 for the second-straight weekend as the animated adventure based on the children's book took in $39.1 million. That raised its 10-day domestic total to $122 million, making "The Lorax" the top-grossing movie released this year.

"John Carter," based on "Tarzan" creator Burroughs' tales of the interplanetary adventurer, opened in second-place with $30.6 million. That's an awful start given the whopping $250 million that Disney reportedly spent to make "John Carter," which also earned generally poor reviews that will hurt its long-term prospects.

The movie's salvation could come overseas, where "John Carter" opened in 55 markets with $70.6 million, giving it a worldwide total of $101.2 million.

The stronger international business helps, but that worldwide total still pales compared to global debuts of $200 million and up for many modern blockbusters.

"We would have hoped for more considering the larger economics of the film but are still encouraged with how it's been received by audiences that have seen it and hope to see that generate positive word of mouth for the balance of the run," said Dave Hollis, Disney's head of distribution.

The Warner Bros. teen comedy "Project X" held up well in its second weekend with $11.6 million to finish at No. 3 and raise its domestic haul to $40.1 million.

Elizabeth Olsen's horror tale "Silent House," released by Open Road Films, opened modestly at No. 4 with $7 million. Olsen plays a young woman terrorized inside her family's spooky summer home.

Eddie Murphy's comedy "A Thousand Words," a leftover shot in 2008 and finally dumped into theaters by distributor Paramount, was a dud at No. 6 with just $6.4 million.

The movie features Murphy as a fast-talking literary agent and neglectful family man who gets a lesson on the important things in life after discovering he has only a thousand words left to utter before he dies.

"A Thousand Words" was so bad it had a perfect score on the film critic site Rottentomatoes.com: all of the 37 reviews compiled there for the movie were negative.

"John Carter" at least managed 49 percent favorable notices of the 170 reviews compiled there. That's still not a recipe for staying power at the box office, particularly with such a bad opening in the United States.

"If you just take the domestic number, it's not a very pretty picture," said Paul Dergarabedian, analyst for box-office tracker Hollywood.com. "But if you look at the worldwide opening weekend of a hundred million dollars, that's pretty solid."

"John Carter" casts "Friday Night Lights" co-star Taylor Kitsch in the title role as a 19th century Civil War veteran whisked away to Mars, where he falls for a beautiful princess and becomes a hero in the red planet's own civil war.

How To Buy New Must-Have Products For Next To Nothing

Few things match the thrill of getting an incredible deal on an item we really crave. It’s a basic human response that we all can relate to.

That’s why auctions are so much fun – they present the titillating chance of scoring something for a lot less than we would expect. And that leaves us feeling great, because we now have the object of our desire and we have money left in our pocket.

Marketers know this and exploit it all the time –hence the profusion of sales, discounts, coupons, and the like… so much so, in fact, that we become numb to the tactic. People just don’t believe they’re really getting a bargain.

But now there’s a new online company that has actually figured out a way to sell new must-have consumer products for jaw-dropping prices.

It’s called Quibids – and it turns out that they are selling everything from the latest new Apple iPads and iPods, to MAC and PC notebooks, to HDTV’s and gift cards from the top retailers at prices as low as 5% of regular retail prices.

Now, of course, anyone in the right mind would be skeptical of such a claim – so we looked into it to learn just how they do it.

It turns out that both the prices and the products are real. Quibids runs a unique version of the traditional auction - when you bid on an item you actually get charged a small fee of about 60 cents. Collectively, the amount collected for all of the bids on an item allows the company to sell the item at price far below actual retail and even below the wholesale price they paid the manufacturer for it.

Figuring out how many bids to place and when to place them involves a little strategy but on QuiBids it’s actually a lot of fun. Each auction has a strict time limit and when you place your bid, the system adds a little time to the auction to see if any other bids come in. If you have the winning bid when the clock runs out – you win the item for that price. According to QuiBids CEO Matt Beckham, “Thousands of people are trying QuiBids every day – and then coming back again and again - so we must be doing something right.”

Arrest Angelina Jolie For War Crimes: Kony 2012

Angelia Jolie openly works for the UN and CFR pushing globalist wars under the cover of humanitarian intervention.

Drunk on the blood of Iraq, Libya, Syria, Afghanistan and scores of other nations Jolie is now pushing military invasion to “help” Africa. She and her masters know full well that they are carrying out destabilization operations in the 3rd world so population can be reduced and resources stolen.

We need to call a spade a spade, this is part of a new branding rollout to launch a AFRICOM take over of Africa. This constitutes a crime against humanity and Jolie is a party to it and needs to be arrested along with other globalist that are using left cover to widen globalist empire.

The problem is you can’t go to the UN because it is at the center of the corporate global government takeover, the people are asleep and wars are being launched against innocents in the name of a bleeding heat liberal agenda. THEY COME IN PEACE!

University of Maryland student vowed rampage would 'make it to national news'

A University of Maryland student has been arrested and charged with posting an Internet threat claiming he planned to go on a shooting rampage on campus hoping to kill as many people as possible.

Campus police said in a statement that 19-year-old Alexander Song, of Fulton, Md., had been identified as the person who posted plans on a website for a rampage that would "kill enough people to make it to national news." The message also warned people to "stay away from the mall." Police did not elaborate.
Capt. Marc Limansky told the Baltimore Sun that police were informed of the alleged threats after a former student noticed them on reddit.com. Two people also contacted the university after chatting with Song on omegle.com, Limansky added.

Song was taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation after his arrest Sunday.

Song, who was not armed when he was arrested, faces a misdemeanor charge of disturbing school activities.

    Campus ban
A police spokesman told The Associated Press it was unclear if Song had an attorney.

The university website describes Song as a member of a campus research program for select honors students who explore how science and technology relates with society. The Gemstone Program lists Song as scheduled to graduate in 2014.

'Game Change': HBO's Sarah Palin Film Sparks Twitter Reactions

HBO's highly-anticipated film "Game Change" premiered Saturday night, and it sparked many reactions from viewers from both ends of the political spectrum. The film, based on the book of the same name, chronicles the 2008 presidential election from the perspectives of the GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain (Ed Harris) and his vice presidential running mate, Sarah Palin (Julianne Moore).

Palin dismissed the HBO film -- airing publicly for the first time on Saturday night -- as unimportant.

In an email to ABC News, Palin said her "family has the right priorities and knows what really matters," according to the Chicago Tribune. As she brushed off the film, she also took a swipe at President Barack Obama for having supporters in the entertainment industry.

Both Palin and McCain have said they won't watch the made-for-tv movie that takes a look inside the behind-the-scenes drama of the 2008 campaign. McCain said "it'll be a cold day in Gila Bend, Arizona" when he views the film.

"Game Change" director Jay Roach said the film humanizes the GOP duo. In a recent interview with CNN, Roach said he wished the two would watch the movie.
