Sonia Gandhi seeks dismissal of 1984 case in US

India's Congress party president Sonia Gandhi's has filed a new motion to dismiss a human rights violation lawsuit against her by Sikhs for Justice, a New York based human rights group.

In a reply memorandum filed in the district court of New York's eastern district, Gandhi's lawyers said the plaintiffs had unjustly argued for "unlimited extraterritorial jurisdiction and corporate liability to reach the tragic events of 1984 in India, and hold an innocent Gandhi liable.

Saying that "two wrongs don't make a right," the motion said the plaintiffs "fail to attribute actual acts or omissions to Gandhi".
The plaintiffs complaint was also devoid of any "factual content that allows the court to draw the reasonable inference that the defendant is liable for the misconduct alleged," they said.

US federal court for the Eastern District of New York had in Sep 2013 issued summons against Sonia Gandhi on a complaint filed by SFJ and some victims of anti-Sikh violence in India in November 1984.

The group has sought compensatory and punitive damages against Gandhi for her alleged role in shielding and protecting Congress party leaders including Kamal Nath, Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler and Amitabh Bachchan from prosecution for their alleged role in the 1984 violence.

Christopher Nolan Screens 'Dark Knight Rises' for Warner Bros

The Hollywood Reporter that Nolan on Friday presented his first cut of 2012's most-anticipated film to top Warner Bros. executives, including film chief Jeff Robinov and production president Greg Silverman.

The movie doesn’t open until July 20, but Nolan has allowed himself plenty of time to fine-tune the film as he and the brass see fit. Sources say Nolan has been a fixture on the Warners lot during the past few days after finishing a monthslong shoot and editing process. The follow-up to 2008's $1 billion-grossing The Dark Knight was filmed in locations as diverse as Los Angeles, New York, New Jersey and Pittsburgh as well as in parts of India and the U.K.

The Batman tale returns most of the cast from Dark Knight, including Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman, along with a new crop of luminaries including Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard and Tom Hardy as villain Bane.

The movie opens a week after July's Comic-Con convention, which Nolan has never attended. Nolan’s previous tentpole movies – Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and Inception – have opened before Comic-Con during their respective summers, but in light of the latest movie’s release date, speculation has already begun that this year will be different.

It'll be wall-to-wall billionaires and bling at this week's Monaco nuptials of Prince Albert to Charlene: The royal wedding that puts Kate's in the shade!

Good news for those who have been craving some more royal wedding glitter. There’s another one this weekend.
It’s the event many thought would never happen: the marriage of Prince Albert of Monaco, the 53-year-old bachelor head of state of the tiny but rich principality on the Cote D’Azur, and Charlene Wittstock, a South African Olympic swimmer 20 years his junior.
Glamour: Charlene Wittstock marries Prince Albert this week in a lavish wedding that is set to make Kate and William's look like a village fete in comparison
The Grimaldi family has ruled Monaco for more than 800 years, and has featured on the global glamour map ever since Hollywood arrived in the form of the last bride to marry into the family, Prince Albert’s mother Grace Kelly.

Prince Albert and South African former swimmer Charlene Wittstock in a picture released a year ago to mark their engagementThe state may be small, but the event will be extravagant. This being Monaco, a tax haven where you are practically imprisoned for understated dressing, chances are the guests’ jewellery and couture alone will make the Windsor effort look like the Middletons’ village fete.
Guests are already docking their yachts in the harbour, and knocking back Cristal champagne on the decks. Those trying to book landing space for private jets at Nice airport have been denied permission unless they can prove they have been invited to the wedding.

Could Lady Gaga be running out of ideas for her stage shows?

Could Lady Gaga be running out of ideas for her stage shows?
The pop superstar emerged from a cocoon during her performance at the MuchMusic Video Awards in Toronto, Canada this weekend, a stunt she has pulled twice already.
Gaga, 25, was at the event to perform some of her recent hits, including Edge Of Glory, and to pick up two awards.

She entered the stage via the egg-like cocoon, just as she did at the Grammy Awards in February this year - she also popped out of a chamber during a performance on Saturday Night Live late last month.
This time however the contraption was suspended above the ground, whereas the previous two crysalis-esque devices were laid down horizontally on the ground.
For the duration of her appearance on the Canadian awards show, Gaga remained relatively covered up in comparison to her usual outrageous get up.

Paunch: Lady Gaga revealed a slightly fuller figure as she arrived the the MuchMusic Video Awards in Canada tonight in a tight LBD teamed with dominatrix-style boots

By Lady Gaga standards, her ensembles were positively demure.
In fact the Queen of shocktastic fashion and barely-there outfits turned out to the ceremony with much more material per square inch than usual.
Despite changing into an array of outfits, the 25-year-old singer kept relatively covered up - which was perhaps something to do with the slightly fuller figure she was seen to be sporting as she arrived.

The Edge of Glory star, who won two awards at the event, turned up at the ceremony in Toronto, Canada, in a form-fitting little black dress which showed a more curvy shape around her midsection.
Last year Gaga's former tour manager, David Ciemny, claimed that the star would starve herself to fit into her revealing stage outfits.
He alleged the singer would go on unhealthy food binges before barely eating in a bid to slim down - saying she once lost 20lbs between fittings.

Earlier this month, Gaga left very little to the imagination as she partied at the CFDA Fashion Awards in a see-through black body stocking in New York.
But tonight was a relatively low-key affair for Gaga, who remained relatively covered in her series of outfits.
