  • German education minister under pressure to resign

Germany's education minister has come under mounting pressure to resign after her university stripped her of her doctorate after ruling that she had plagiarised chunks of the paper.

The ruling against Annette Schavan comes as a blow to Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, who is aiming to win a third term in office in federal elections this September.

A panel of academics from Düsseldorf University found that Ms Schavan had "systematically and deliberately" passed off the work of others as her own without sufficient sourcing in her 1980 thesis, entitled "Person and Conscience." The decision prompted immediate opposition calls for the head of Ms Schavan, who in her capacity as education minister is responsible for academic standards.

Andrea Nahles, general secretary of the opposition Social Democrats, said Ms Schavan must "face the consequences of her actions," while Green party leader Jurgen Trittin claimed that she no longer had any credibility as education minister and that her "position was no longer tenable."

Mrs Merkel has so far stood by her beleaguered minister. Steffen Seibert said the chancellor still had "full confidence" in Ms Schavan, and added that she was "in good contact" with the education minister who is on holiday in South Africa.
Mr Seibert added, however, that when Ms Schavan returns "the two will have an opportunity to talk in peace".

Adolf Hitler anniversary: Angela Merkel warns far-Right could rise again 30 Jan 2013
The education minister has been one of Mrs Merkel's most popular cabinet members, but faced with growing calls for her to sack the minister, and aware of the need to nip any scandal in the bud well ahead of September's election, the chancellor may well have to jettison Ms Schavan.
She will also be eager to avoid a repeat of the damaging political fallout from an earlier plagiarism scandal in 2011 that forced Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg, the then defence minister, to quit.
With her political career hanging by a thread Ms Schavan vowed to fight on.

iPhone Home Button Broken? Here's A Handy Solution

A few days ago my colleague, Mia Aquino, put out the following call for urgent iPhone assistance on Twitter:

Mia's not alone: Complete home button malfunction is one of the more common maladies befalling iPhones, if Apple's support forums are any indication.

There are all sorts of suggestions for fixes in the link above: Recalibrate the home button; blow in the charging port like it's an old NES game; dab some WD-40 on the button itself. Or, the old reliable: Visit the Apple Store and cry helplessly until the Geniuses give you a new phone to make you leave.

Any of these might do the trick for you. Failing those, though, there is a sure-fire way to gain access to your home button without tinkering with or possibly damaging your hardware that I've had friends employ and enjoy in the past.

Fact is, you can get your home button on the touchscreen, available for you at any point that the screen is powered on. Go into Settings, and then General, and then Accessibility, and then Assistive Touch. Turn Assistive Touch on, and you'll see a persistent white dot in the top left corner of your screen.

This is your new home button, and more: Tapping it will open a menu that can take you home, launch Siri, lock your screen and turn the volume up and down, among other features.

You can drag that button anywhere on the screen you desire, pinning it down wherever you find most convenient.

It's a fantastic feature for those who find themselves with a malfunctioning home button, and also seems far safer to use while driving. Those who have difficulty with the iPhone's home or volume buttons -- men and women with arthritis, for example -- might also find it much easier to navigate their phones with an on-screen button.

Got any other tips to fix or circumvent a broken home button? I'd love to read them below. And if you have any other personal tech questions, drop me an email at captaingadget@huffingtonpost.com and I might just feature it on the site.

Teens Lose Fingers In Game Of Tug-Of-War

A simple game of tug-of-war ended horribly for two California high school seniors.

During Spirit Week at South El Monte High School outside of Los Angeles, Edith Rodriguez and Pablo Ocegueda were playing tug-of-war when the rope snapped. The rope had wrapped around the hands of Rodriguez and Ocegueda, so when it snapped, several of their fingers were severed.

Rodriguez, a soccer player, and Ocegueda, a football player, were immediately brought into Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center for surgery to reattach their fingers.

Eddie Pickett, a supervising dispatcher with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, told NBC News that the teens lost four fingers on each hand while Rodriguez also lost the thumb on her right hand.

"They were just both in shock, staring at their hands," Jennifer Jiminez, a freshman at South El Monte, told KCBS. "They didn't know what to do."

Nick J. Salerno, Superintendent of El Monte Union High School District, said its schools have been playing tug-of-war for years.

"I've never heard of anything like this happening," Salerno said. "It's unbelievable to me, it's shocking."

Dr. Robert Glatter, an emergency medicine physician at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, was not involved in the treatment of the South El Monte students but in an email to CBS he wrote that he could see how injuries like these would happen.

"Loops, knots and other types of 'holdings' -- used to wrap the rope around hands or any part of the body is extremely dangerous -- and can place individuals at risk for finger and hand injuries," Glattner wrote. "Including traumatic amputations and joint dislocations."

While extremely rare, there are several documented cases of similar injuries resulting from games of tug-of-war.

In 2007 two Colorado high schoolers partially severed their hands during a game of tug-of-war. One year later an 8-year-old Minnesota girl lost four fingers when her hand got tangled in the rope.

Tug-of-war was an Olympic sport until 1920, and the sport's supporters are hopeful that renewed interest could help getting the event restored by 2024. In the meantime, the Tug-Of-War World Championship in 2014 will be held in Madison, Wis.

Miley Cyrus Photos Singer Channels Straight '90s

Miley Cyrus channeled the '90s as she stepped out in a pair of ridiculously short shorts that were cut up-to-there Monday afternoon in Hollywood. Photo agency X17 snapped the engaged 20-year-old singer showing off her fit figure in a pair of jean cutoffs, black Doc Martens and a floral crop top that seemed to be ripped straight from the pages of Sassy magazine.

Cyrus, who is engaged to "Last Song" co-star Liam Hemsworth, has undergone a dramatic physical transformation in the past year, having noticeably trimmed down and cropped her hair into a short pixie cut.

Celebrity Overshares Star Who've Said And Shown Way Too Much

What's every publicist's nightmare? A celebrity who can't keep their mouth shut or their clothes on.

Hollywood's biggest names are coached about how to handle themselves in interviews and on the red carpet, but they're only human and sometimes they slip up.

Whether it's a TMI tweet, interview overshare or unfortunate skin-baring moment, check out these celebrities who've crossed the line of prim and proper.

Britney Spears & Las Vegas Star's Hotel Gig Confirmed

Britney Spears may become Las Vegas' finest after all.

Rumors began swirling in January that the Queen of the Comeback would be relocating to Vegas for a residency with the Caesars group, or one of the numerous other hotels reportedly bidding for her.

Last week, however, representatives from Caesars spoke to Buzzfeed about Spears, shooting down the rumors. The rep said that the hotel "is engaged with a number of today's top artists in discussions regarding headlining residencies at our venues in Las Vegas," and is "always interested in having artists with the caliber of Britney Spears performing at our theaters."

Spears' manager Larry Rudolph is telling a different story. Rudolph spoke to Extra and said "Spears' Las Vegas gig is 100% on." Extra reports that Spears is in the process of deciding between a Caesar hotel and one other property, and a formal announcement will be made once she has picked.

Bob Marley Birthday Reggae Singer Would Have Turned 68 Today

The beloved Jamaican singer died of cancer in 1981 at the age of 36, but his legacy lives on through his music. Marley is credited with helping spread both reggae sounds and the Rastafari movement to a worldwide audience throughout his 18 years in the business.

According to Urban Islandz, "Legend: The Best of Bob Marley and the Wailers," which was released three years after his death, is reggae's biggest selling album to date, with more than 10 million copies sold in the United States and an estimated 25 million worldwide. And that's no surprise.

Despite his absence, Marley has continued to garner success, being honored with such awards as BBC’s song of the millenium for "One Love" and getting inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. Also in 1999, Time Magazine named Bob Marley & The Wailers' "Exodus" as the greatest album of the 20th century.

Last year, Ziggy Marley talked to The Huffington Post about the first-ever family authorized documentary, "Marley," chronicling the life and times of his legendary father. Ziggy explained another date that is associated with the global icon, saying, "I think 4/20 is a special day. Of course, with our culture we use herb for so many different things, not just for smoking. I think it’s something that we’re not going to hide from, and I think it’s appropriate because it’s a part of our culture and a part of Bob’s music. If you love Bob’s music, well guess what, herb is a part of Bob’s music."

Marley is survived by Ziggy and his 10 other children, Sharon, Cedella, Stephen, Robbie, Rohan, Karen, Stephanie, Julian, Ky-Mani and Damian.

    Kourtney Flaunts Post-Baby Body

Kourtney Kardashian, who welcomed her second child last July, reportedly dropped a whopping 44 pounds after giving birth to daughter Penelope — and now Celebuzz has the photos of the end result.

Seen in a parade of colorful bikinis, the Kourtney & Kim Take Miami star flaunts her flat stomach and toned limbs in a series of freshly-released photos.

”It took me twice as long as last time but I feel healthy and really much better about it,” wrote about the body transformation in her Celebuzz blog early this January.

“It’s all about priorities and living life!”

According to Kardashian, 33, her success is attributed to a combination of exercise, healthy eating habits and active mommy duty — such as pushing around a stroller — in between playtime with Penelope and three-year-old son Mason.

“It wasn’t even an option to think about going crazy and overdoing it with exercise [this time around],” the mom-of-two said in an interview with Us Weekly.

To drop the baby weight, the mom-of-two enlisted the help of celeb trainer Tracy Anderson, who in the past has worked with A-listers such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna.

Kardashian also attributes her weight lost to her sister Kim‘s unwavering support.

“If she wasn’t scheduling the workouts, I probably wouldn’t have been as motivated,” she admitted.

What do you think of Kourtney’s post-baby bikini bod? Take a look at the results in the gallery above, then sound off in the comments.

Katie Holmes Single And Loving It, But Does 'Eventually Want To Find A Man'

Katie Holmes has been on her own for seven months now, after calling it quits with her husband of almost six years, Tom Cruise, last June.

But despite being single in New York City, the 34-year-old is reportedly cautious about getting involved with another man. According to RadarOnline.com, Holmes is taking things slow as she recovers "from the emotional scars" left behind by her tumultuous marriage to Cruise, whose "controlling ways" allegedly led to their highly publicized divorce.

“Katie’s in a dilemma, because she wants to date but is concerned where it could lead to from there,” a family insider tells Radar, adding, "She’s worried that if she commits herself fully to another man, she will have to give up the freedom she’s enjoying so much at the moment. As a single woman, she has no one controlling her nowadays, telling her what to do or who to see and she absolutely loves it!"

However, Holmes does miss having a companion and "doesn’t want to be alone for the rest of her life," according to the source.

But let's not forget about Holmes' 6-year-old daughter Suri, who has been keeping her busy in the Big Apple. Just this weekend the pair was spotted at a performance of "Cinderella" on Broadway and even got to go backstage to meet the cast, the New York Daily News reports.

Britney Spears Photos Singer Steps Out In Boxer Shorts

Quick, someone get the doctor! Britney Spears looked on bemusedly at son Jayden James as they made their way to the veterinarian, with Spears clutching a tiny white dog to her chest. The 31-year-old pop star must have left the house in quite a hurry, judging from her I-don't-care outfit of dress socks, boxer shorts and a gray tank top.

Spears made news last week when it was reported that the former "X Factor" judge was not a candidate for a headlining gig at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, contrary to previous reports.

Justin Bieber Says Ladies Love His 'Lolly'

Watching Justin Bieber grow up right before our eyes has been an interesting experience. Just a few years ago, he was that charming, preternaturally mature young man filming music videos in bowling allies. Times have changed.

"Lolly," a new Maejor Ali song featuring Bieber and Juicy J, uses a worn-out metaphor for penis as the focal point of a brag track about how much the ladies love ... sucking on their respective ... "lollies."

Bieber actually raps on the song, boasting about watching Netflix with your girlfriend and "poppin' Pellegrino" (OK, the Pellgerino line is actually pretty choice). Juicy J's verse won't surprise anyone who has ever heard the "Bandz a Make Her Dance" rapper's work.

In fact, this isn't the first time Juicy J's used this lazy metaphor. "Lolli Lolli (Pop That Body)," a 2008 Three 6 Mafia single features Juicy J painting a similar scene. And that song was released just two days before Lil Wayne's candy stick single, "Lollipop" (fun fact: The Three 6 Mafia song was also originally called "Lollipop," but Juicy J, DJ Paul and Lord Infamous decided to play nice). In case that's not enough for you, check out D4L's "Laffy Taffy," which uses the titular sweet as a stand-in for bottom. Perhaps Southern rappers could do with a new meme.

Oh, and because it's 2013, the song includes a quick MDMA reference, too ("bandz a make her dance, molly makes her lose her underwear"). Pop music continues to toe the line with date rape.

Chris Kyle Dead: Author Of 'American Sniper' Shot And Killed At Gun Range

Chris Kyle, an ex-Navy SEAL who wrote the best-selling book American Sniper about his service in Iraq, was shot and killed at a gun range in Texas, multiple outlets reported Saturday night. A second man was also killed.

According to local TV station KHOU, officials said that Kyle was shot at point-blank range "while helping another soldier who was recovering from post traumatic stress syndrome" at a range near the town of Glen Rose.

The Dallas Morning News reports that Lancaster, Texas police arrested a suspect, 25-year-old Eddie Ray Routh, after a brief chase.

Kyle had become well-known for his exploits in Iraq, where he deployed four times, set the record for sniper kills at 150, received numerous commendations, and, according to the Stephenville Empire Tribune, was given the nickname "The Devil of Ramadi" by insurgents

Alicia Keys Belts Out National Anthem At The Super Bowl

So much has been said about Beyonce's inaugural lip-syncing that Alicia Keys' prep work was all but ignored. But on Sunday, Keys made good on her earlier promises to deliver an all-new version of "The Star-Spangled Banner" when she sang the national anthem at the Super Bowl.

Keys' rendition was powerful and moving -- and she didn't have any problems singing the lyrics as they're written. That's more than can be said for Christina Aguilera, who famously goofed when she performed the song at the 2011 Super Bowl.

Keys sat at a piano as images of American soldiers overseas were inter-spliced with footage of her performance and emotional athletes.

"I'm really excited about it, I can't even lie," Keys said in advance of Sunday's performance. "I have to rehearse it totally, as if it's a brand-new song, because it is actually a brand new song in the style that I'll deliver it. I'm actually rehearsing it like a maniac."

The singer wasn't the only one who was excited: Sports books offered bets on the duration of her take on the anthem. One site set the over-under at 2 minutes and 15 seconds. Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Jordin Sparks all performed the song in less than 2 minutes and 10 seconds. Billy Joel performed it in 1 minute and 30 seconds.

Though she did not perform during the inauguration itself, Keys also had a hand in inaugural festivities. She performed for Barack and Michelle Obama at the Commander-in-Chief's Ball, tweaking the lyrics of her latest hit, "This Girl Is On Fire," to celebrate the first couple.

Iron Man Makes Super Bowl-Sized Comeback In New Trailer

Marvel scored yet another field goal Sunday night (February 3) with a Super Bowl spot that finds our favorite iron-clad hero rescuing 13 innocent airplane passengers as they're sucked out of a huge hole and plummeting ever so swiftly to their doom.

Tony Stark grabs a hold of the first person, getting the others to join him by the hands. As the plane above them explodes in a plume of fire, Tony begins to realize that he can only carry the weight of so many people. So what's an Iron Man to do in this situation?

    'Iron Man 3'
"Iron Man 3" sees Tony Stark coming up against his most formidable adversary yet: the Mandarin. Played by Sir Ben Kingsley, the Mandarin is the leader of a deadly terrorist group known as the Ten Rings. With an intellect on par with Stark and an uncompromising need for vengeance, this technology-crazed criminal puts Tony to the test both mentally and physically.

As Tony sets out to find those responsible for emotionally scarring his loved ones, he's eventually forced to survive by his own devices; not the ones that he's been making in his laboratory but instead the ones that he was born with.

If rumors are true that "Iron Man 3" will be largely inspired by Warren Ellis' "Extremis," Tony will be forced to inject himself with a techno-organic virus, that will forever change his life, in order to defeat an enemy of similar accord.

Of course, this is all based purely on speculation. All we know for sure is that the Mandarin will be the main antagonist of the film and that Aldrich Killian and Maya Hansen (two major characters from the "Extremis" storyline) will be making an appearance as well.

Directed by Shane Black and starring Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, "Iron Man 3" hits theaters May 3, 2013.

    Super Bowl 2013 Commercials

Super Bowl commercials are an American institution. You know another American institution? Making snap, sweeping judgments on work others spent months and millions creating. We're combining both right here, with quick-hit takes on the best (and the worst, can't forget the worst) ads of Super Bowl XLVII. Winners, losers and full video ... you'll get it all right here. Here is a sampling of the commercials, followed by our winners and losers:

    Budweiser, "Brotherhood"
Plot: Guy raises horse from ponyhood, horse goes on to be a Clydesdale, horse spots former owner years later ... sorry, it's a little dusty in here ...
Verdict: OH COME ON. Are you kidding me? Super Bowl commercials aren't supposed to make you cry! They're supposed to make you laugh or cringe or go reload your plate. This? This ad makes you want to call your parents, hug your kids, and maybe just buy a horse. Flat-out winner out of the gate. Going to be a lot of people dabbing their eyes with cocktail napkins when this one airs.

    The NFL, "Leon Sandcastle"
Plot: Deion Sanders decides he wants back in the League, and dresses up as "Leon Sandcastle."
Verdict: Putting aside the fact that if Deion Sanders still had game there'd be no need for a "Leon" (reality! boooo!) this was a fun goof, and we foresee a future character showing up in NFL ads for awhile.

    Jeep, "Whole Again"
Plot: We've still got people fighting overseas, you know.
Verdict: It's always a little sleazy when a company yokes itself to patriotism to push product, but the message here overwhelms any buy-our-vehicles shill.
    Dodge Ram, "Farmer"
Plot: Talking about how awesome farmers are. That's it.
Verdict: Probably the most effective ad of the night, even if most of America doesn't even know a real farmer.

A History Of Wooing Men CDZA Shows How Bad Pop Music Has Really Gotten

You really don't realize how raunchy today's pop songs are until you compare The Supremes to The Pussycat Dolls.

The awesome music collective CDZA puts it all in perspective with a "History Of Wooing Men," the follow-up opus to their earlier "History Of Wooing Women."

Now we're wondering: if you're singing about someone licking your "crack," can you still technically call it a love song?

'The Lone Ranger' Trailer Johnny Depp & Armie Hammer Ride In Super Bowl Spot

A fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust and a hearty Hi-Yo Silver: The new "Lone Ranger" trailer has arrived.

Disney debuted the latest "Lone Ranger" trailer during Super Bowl XLVII. For those keeping score at home, it's the third "Lone Ranger" trailer the studio has released since last year.

Despite a hefty price tag (upwards of $250 million), Disney is expecting "The Lone Ranger" to be one of it's biggest 2013 releases. The film stars Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer as the title ranger. Gore Verbinski, who worked with Depp on the first three "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, is the director.

"It's a dysfunctional buddy movie," Verbinski told USA Today last year. "It's two guys who start literally and figuratively handcuffed together who end up on the same mission with completely different world views. They sort of rub off on one another. But they have plenty of disagreements."

Watch the "Lone Ranger" trailer above; the film is due out in theaters on July 3.

Johnny Depp & Whitey Bulger Actor To Star As Gangster In 'Black Mass'

Johnny Depp has found his next role.

Depp has nabbed the part of infamous gangster Whitey Bulger in the upcoming thriller "Black Mass." Adapted from Dick Lehr and Gerard O'Neill's non-fiction book of the same name, "Black Mass" will be directed by Barry Levinson ("Rain Man").

“I could not be more thrilled to have the biggest star in the world and Academy Award-winning director Barry Levinson to finally bring this incredible story to the big screen," producer Brian Oliver said in a release. "'Black Mass' expertly details the twists and turns of this highly complex story, painting a vivid portrait of Boston's underbelly and its corrupt political machine, as well as exposing the worstscandal in FBI history. It's also an examination of loyalty to family, Irish heritage, and South Boston."

Bulger, 83, became famous for his mobster past and his work as an FBI informant. Bulger was arrested in 2011 and is facing charges for his involvement with killings and racketeering in the '70s and '80s.

Currently without a release date, "Black Mass" is to begin shooting in May. The film is to be produced and financed by Cross Creek Pictures and Exclusive Media, while Universal will be responsible for distribution.Johnny Depp has found his next role.

Beyonce Super Bowl Halftime Show Singer Stuns With All-Out Display

For some, Beyonce's Super Bowl halftime show was to be the Big Game's finest moment. But for all who tuned in to see the singer perform, it's clear she brought her A game.

Beyonce worked through a medley of her hits, including "Love on Top," "Crazy in Love," "End of Time," and "Baby Boy" before she was joined by Destiny's Child bandmates Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland. The trio started with "Bootylicious" and worked through "Independent Woman" before collaborating on "Single Ladies," which is a Beyonce song.

Rowland and Williams then left the stage, leaving Beyonce to perform "Halo" solo.

The show featured plenty of fire, ice and smoke, with Beyonce appearing on a rising platform. She was clad in an all-black ensemble with heels and a leather-like get-up. Early in the set, she threw her jacket into the audience. At some point, she used a screen that recalled her 2011 Billboard Music Awards performance.

Before the game started, Jennifer Hudson and a chorus of children from Sandy Hook Elementary School sang "America the Beautiful." Alicia Keys then performed the national anthem while seated at a piano.

Last year, Madonna headlined the show. She was joined by Nicki Minaj, M.I.A. and LMFAO. The show was perhaps most notable for M.I.A.'s decision to give the middle finger to the camera, and the 114 million people who were watching at home. Given its massive viewership (3 million more people watched the halftime show than the game itself), headlining the event often translates into a sizable increase in sales of the performer's music.

A number of music's biggest names have performed at past Super Bowls, including Ella Fitzgerald, Andy Williams, The Rolling Stones, Prince, The Who, Gloria Estefan and, of course, Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson. Early games featured only college marching bands, and for quite a few years, Up With People performed. More information on the history of the halftime show is available in our earlier coverage.

Lil Wayne has yet to watch Nicki Minaj on 'Idol'

"American Idol" picked Nicki Minaj as a judge to draw in viewers, but she's actually discouraged at least one person from watching it — her mentor, Lil Wayne.

The rap star admitted Friday that he has yet to see "Idol" this season — or any other season.

"Actually, I've never watched it," he said, a bit sheepishly.

Part of the reason he hasn't tuned in to see Minaj is because she didn't exactly sell the show to Lil Wayne.

"When I talk to her she's always tells me, 'You don't wanna watch that, you're not going to be into it,'" he said.

"She knows me. ... It's kind of like a catfight where they be going back and forth type of thing, I'm not into all that," he said of the judging panel, which includes Mariah Carey, with whom Minaj had a much-publicized argument.

"The talent on that is pretty good I heard, though," he said.

Lil Wayne spoke Friday after signing autographs for more than 100 fans who were at a suburban New Orleans Macy's to support his Trukfit clothing line; a couple hundred more waited outside for a glimpse of the star.

Wayne said he's hoping to soon make Trukfit for women and children. Now, it's just a men's line. Part of the problem is finding the right designer.

"They send everything, every design to me, and I approve or decline, and the designer is extremely OK (with that). ... That person may have designed something, and I may say I hate it. I get no flack about it, and women are different," he said, laughing. "So we're trying to find the perfect female designer who has no problem with me declining what I don't like."

Lil Wayne, of course, still has his day job: His new album, "I Am Not A Human Being II," is due out March 26. When asked what fans could expect, he said, laughing: "Never have expectations for me, like never, because I probably will not meet your expectations. ... Just enjoy what you get, hopefully."

Postal Service says it’s immune from local traffic laws

A government lawyer’s attempt to get dismissed nearly $700 in traffic tickets given to the U.S. Postal Service is being met with a hearty and humorous, Heck no.

In a Jan. 22 letter sent to both the city of East Cleveland, Ohio, and the company that operates the city's photo-enforcement program, Postal Service attorney Jennifer S. Breslin says two school-zone speeding citations and five red-light infractions by postal trucks in December should be ignored.

“In providing mail service across the country, the Postal Service attempts to work within local and state laws and regulations, when feasible,” wrote Breslin, after reminding “To Whom It May Concern” that postal workers promptly deliver over 200 billion pieces of mail annually.

“However, as you are probably aware, the Postal Service enjoys federal immunity from state and local regulation,” she continued.

That last bit did not go over well with American Traffic Solutions (ATS), the Arizona-based company that enforces East Cleveland’s camera citations.

“By attempting to hide behind an immunity claim, you are aiding and abetting your drivers in their blatant disregard for the traffic laws in East Cleveland, which have endangered other drivers, pedestrians and school children,” ATS attorney George Hittner wrote in his three-page response to Breslin, who received it on Thursday. (He also cc'd the postmaster general, two U.S. representatives and two senators.)

Hittner cited the Postal Service’s own safety manual and case law to point out that postal truck drivers should and have been held accountable. He also gave a few examples where the driving habits of carriers resulted in well-publicized legal consequences.

“My last and favorite example is of the USPS truck driver delivering mail while naked,” Hittner wrote. “He was arrested for lewd and lascivious behavior.”

He added, more sternly: “We suggest that you transfer the liability for the infractions to the USPS drivers who incurred them, and instruct them that pursuant to Ohio law, as well as the USPS guidelines, the infractions are their responsibility. If you choose to ignore the infractions, penalties and fines will continue to accumulate.”

    Women Breastfeeding in Animals Really

I have no problems looking at pictures depicting animal moms breastfeeding and literally taking in babies of different species, I even find them very sweet. But for some reason, looking at these photos of women breastfeeding various animals makes me very nauseous, it’s just not natural, no matter what continent your from.
There’s Vijay Luxmi Sau, an Indian woman who adopted an abandoned baby fawn. After finding the hungry fawn, she began breastfeeding it along with her own human baby. Then there’s Namita Das, who began breastfeeding a baby monkey after her older children left home. Das, who considers the monkey her son, reportedly suckled him for four years. The neighbors consider Das’ devotion to the monkey ”abnormal,” and say she is “overdoing her affection” for him. Kura “Kat” Tumanako of New Zealand breastfed her staffordshire bull terrier pup because she wanted to raise him as a brother to her baby girl. “It’s my life, my responsibility. I make my own choices,” she told The Age back in 2004. “I’m going to look after me, my baby and my puppy.” “From a veterinarian viewpoint it’s always better for any species to have its own milk. If a bitch was available that would have been better,” Sharon Marshall, a veterinarian, said at the time. She added that it’s unusual, but not unheard of, for one species to provide milk to another. For instance, there have been cases of dogs providing milk for cats. And women from Papua New Guinea hill tribes have been known to breastfeed pigs.

Military Moms Breastfeeding in Uniform Stir Controversy (PHOTOS)

At a time when breastfeeding in public is already controversial, pictures of two military moms doing so while wearing their uniforms is sparking outrage.

The photo is part of a local breastfeeding awareness campaign by Mom2Mom of Fairchild Air Force Base, a support group launched in January by Crystal Scott, a military spouse and mother of three. Among the intimate close-ups of smiling young mothers cuddling their adorable babies, the images of the two airmen stand out.

"People are comparing breastfeeding in uniform to urinating and defecating in uniform. They're comparing it to the woman who posed in "Playboy" in uniform [in 2007]" Scott told Yahoo! Shine in an interview. "We never expected it to be like this."

"I'm an X-ray tech and I breastfeed in my uniform all the time," Scott says. "Granted they're scrubs. But people do it all the time in their uniforms. If you have a hungry baby, why would you take the time to change completely?"

Terran Echegoyen-McCabe, a member of the Air National Guard who was photographed in uniform nursing her 10-month-old twin daughters, says that she's surprised by the reaction to the photos.

"I have breastfed in our lobby, in my car, in the park ... and I pump, usually in the locker room," she told the "Today" show, adding that she usually nurses her babies while on her lunch break during drill weekends. "I'm proud to be wearing a uniform while breast-feeding. I'm proud of the photo and I hope it encourages other women to know they can breastfeed whether they're active duty, guard or civilian."

All of the women in the photos volunteered to appear in the awareness campaign, and Echegoyen-McCabe is featured -- wearing civilian clothing -- in a few of the other candid shots. None of the photos are posed; the women are simply feeding their babies the way they usually do. But even though some of the other photographs are just as revealing, only the ones of Echegoyen-McCabe and her friend Christina Luna in uniform have been criticized.

"The Air Force has never endorsed these photos," the photographer, Brynja Sigurdardottir points out on her website, where she posted several other photos from the Mom2Mom campaign. "These women just happen to be in the Air Force, in their uniform, breastfeeding their babies."

Japanese Snaggletooth Craze Spawns Dental Procedures, Girl Group

Americans regularly fork over $5,000 to fix a crooked smile with braces. But in Japan, women are spending about $400 for just the opposite. On the other side of the planet, imperfect teeth are becoming a thing of beauty.

Japan's beauty trend, dubbed "tseuke-yaeba," has reached a fever pitch, with young women paying hundreds for snaggleteeth.

The procedure first made headlines in 2011, but it has grown in popularity since then, even spawning a Japanese pop girl group whose members sport the snaggletooth look. The girl group, TYB48 or "Tseuke-Yaeba 48," was created by the Taro Masuoka—the very same dentist who pioneered the procedure.

"A lot of my patients are fashion-conscious and very cute. I wanted to find some way to take advantage of this, so I formed TYB48," Masuoka, of Tokyo's Pure Cure dental salon, told Japan Today.

The group whose debut album titled "Mind If I Bite?" dropped last April, turned the child-like vampire mouth into a bona-fide phenomenon. But they're far from Japan's first famous females with mangled mouths. See the smiles on the country's popular news anchor Mika Sugisaki and Japan's crown princess Masako.

[The girls of TYB48. photo: Facebook] The girls of TYB48. photo: FacebookThe trend may seems out of step with American dentistry, but in Japan—where fashion trends often take their cue from child-like physical attributes—it's a thing of beauty. Masuoka claims the snaggletooth look gives his patients an "impish beauty" that is considered "endearingly attractive" to men. He's even reportedly offered middle school and high-school aged patients a half-price discount on the procedure if they bring identification. (The procedure, which can be temporary or permanent, involves cementing exaggerated veneers onto each canine tooth. You can check out how it's done with this helpful video from Tokyo's Dental Care Salon Plasir.)

Roland Kelts, author of the book Japan America, theorizes the rise of the "impish" mouth may have a psychological link. "The 'girl next door' look of accessibility and plainness is especially popular in Japan right now partly, I think, because Japanese men feel so weak in the face of a stagnant economy and fast-shifting gender roles," Kelts told Yahoo! Shine. "Marriage and birth rates in Japan are at historic lows. A too-perfect set of teeth, or anything else, can be intimidating when your role in society is imperiled."

Shifting gender roles and a growing insecurity of men in the workplace? Sounds familiar. If that's partly behind the snaggletooth trend in Japan, could twisted dental implants make their way to the United States any time soon?

[Detail of the snaggletooth look. photo: Facebook] Detail of the snaggletooth look. photo: Facebook"Gain popularity in US? No!" Dr. Jacqueline Fulop Goodling, a New York-based orthodontist, tells Shine. "Americans have spent billions of dollars educating ourselves on the effects of good oral hygiene... We care about the way our teeth look but we care more about if they are healthy."

Dr. Michael Sinkin, a Manhattan dentist, agrees that it's a cultural difference that has little chance of translating overseas. "When someone goes for cosmetic dentistry, some people want something perfect—'chiclet teeth.' Other people want a natural look. Culturally, that can vary. It's almost like a fashion statement," he told Shine. "I had a Japanese patient once who came in for some work and she was unhappy with the result, because she felt they looked too American, too perfect."

And, according to Dr. Joseph Banker, a cosmetic dentist from Creative Dental Care, the health risks just aren't worth it. "Although the procedure may seem non-invasive, the underlying teeth can be damaged in several ways. The additional length may cause stress on the teeth and can increase the risk of a tooth fracture." Messing with front canines in particular can lead to jaw problems, tooth decay and bacteria build-up, he says.

Nicki Minaj Grammys 'Had A Different Reason' To Snub Me

Despite having a big year in music, Nicki Minaj didn't receive any Grammy nominations. Not a problem, she says.

"I've gotten tons of awards and I believe when it's my time to get a Grammy, I'll get a Grammy," she said with a laugh.

The 30-year-old had one of last year's biggest hits with the multiplatinum dance-pop anthem "Starships." Her sophomore album, "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded," has reached gold status and launched other hits on the rap and R&B charts.

But Minaj, who received three Grammy nominations last year, including best new artist and best rap album for her platinum debut, "Pink Friday," was shut out when this year's nominations were announced.

"I think that the Grammys had a different reason, that I do not want to discuss ... and that's just between me and them," she said in a recent interview. "But I respect their organization and I'll get a Grammy eventually. I'm not worried about it."

A representative for The Recording Academy didn't immediately respond to an email Tuesday seeking comment.

Minaj was featured on Ludacris' "My Chick Bad," which was nominated for a 2011 Grammy Award, before she released her first album.

She was criticized when she released her sophomore album last April for taking on a pop-and-electronic sound that echoed Katy Perry, Rihanna and Ke$ha. "Roman Reloaded" is a mesh of hip-hop, dance, pop, R&B and reggae flavors, and producers included radio hit makers like RedOne and Dr. Luke.

"I understand that artists and critics make a big deal over the Grammys. But when I go to my shows and I'm selling out arenas in London, and when I'm in Australia and Japan, there aren't any Grammys there," she said. "There are human beings who I've touched. There are human beings who are inspired by me, who I love dearly. And that's what my career is based on."

Minaj, who is a new judge on "American Idol" alongside Mariah Carey and Keith Urban, said she would probably be upset if she doesn't earn Grammy respect later in her career.

Rihanna On Chris Brown: 'He Doesn't Have The Luxury Of F*cking Up Again'

Are they or aren't they? Rihanna and Chris Brown have played coy about their recent reconciliation, posting revealing Instagram photos of each other and releasing curious songs-with-a-message like "Nobodies Business." Now in a new interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Rihanna continues to neither deny nor confirm a romantic relationship with her ex-boyfriend, but does talk about why she decided to give him a second chance.

In a preview of the article that hits stands Friday, the 24-year-old "Diamonds" singer says of Brown:

"I decided it was more important for me to be happy. I wasn't going to let anybody's opinion get in the way of that. Even if it's a mistake, it's my mistake. After being tormented for so many years, being angry and dark, I'd rather just live my truth and take the backlash. I can handle it."

She adds that she feels safe in her relationship with Brown, and how its evolved:

"But it's different now. We don't have those types of arguments anymore. We talk about shit. We value each other. We know exactly what we have now, and we don't want to lose that... He doesn't have the luxury of fucking up again. That's just not an option. I can't say that nothing else will ever go wrong. But I'm pretty solid in knowing that he's disgusting by that. And I wouldn't have gone this far if I ever thought that was a possibility."

Of course, Rihanna's words now are in sharp contrast from what she told Diane Sawyer in November 2009, nine months after Brown assaulted Rihanna in a car on the eve of the Grammys. In the emotional interview, Rihanna admitted that she had left Brown partly out of an obligation to set the right example for young women.

Kourtney Kardashian Bikini New Mom Bares 44-Pound Weight Loss After Baby No. 2

Second-time mom Kourtney Kardashian is back in a bikini after gaining 45-pounds while pregnant with her daughter, Penelope.

Kardashian put on a tiny purple bikini, showing off a flat stomach and toned thighs, for an Us Weekly exclusive on her weight loss.

The new mom, who gave birth to her second baby in July, dropped 44 pounds in just six months and rocked a gold bikini for the cover of Us Weekly.

"This time, the focus is really on being a mom and being present, knowing my priorities," Kardashian told the magazine.

She used celebrity fitness guru Tracy Anderson's 90-minute dance-focused exercises and cut her portions to get back down to 105 pounds.

”It took me twice as long as last time but I feel healthy and really much better about it,” Kardashian wrote on her Celebuzz blog.

Kourtney gave her sister, Kim, some of the credit for her getting back in such great shape after the baby.

"If she wasn't scheduling the workouts, I probably wouldn't have been as motivated," she told E! News of Kim helping her keep to a strict exercise regimen.

With Kim set to give birth in July, Kourtney will likely be able to teach her a thing or two about motherhood -- something Kim has dissed in the past.

"Mom life is so torturous," Kim told Kourtney in a recent episode of E!'s "Kourtney and Kim Take Miami." Adding, "I have a whole new perspective on how boring and miserable your lives are." She went on to say that she would "literally die" if she were to have kids right now, but later apologized and blamed the outburst on her own fertility fears.

At the time, she didn't know she was pregnant with Kanye's baby.

15-Year-Old Girl Shot And Killed In Kenwood Neighborhood Park

A teenage girl–an honor student who had just performed at President Obama’s inaugural–was gunned down Tuesday afternoon in the Kenwood neighborhood, just blocks from the high school she attended.

CBS 2’s Mike Parker reports the victim, 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton, was taking shelter from the rain with a group of 10 to 12 teenagers under a canopy in Vivian Gordon Harsh Park on the 4500 block of South Oakenwald Avenue around 2:30 p.m., when someone jumped a fence, ran up to them, and opened fire.

Just days before, Hadiya performed with her high school band at President Obama’s inauguration.

The park is near King College Prep High School — where Pendleton was an honor student, volleyball player, and majorette.

A witness said the teens scattered and ran out of the park in a panic after the shots were fired. Pendleton and a boy who also was shot collapsed about a block away, in front of one of the upscale condo row houses that line Oakenwald.

Pendleton was struck once in the back, and died at the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital less than an hour later.

The teenage boy who was shot was struck in the leg. He also was being treated at Comer Children’s Hospital.

Lady Gaga's YouTube Views Stripped Singer Loses 156 Million Views

Lady Gaga has been stripped of 156 million YouTube views after the site cleared out stats it deemed dummied up by hackers and viewcount generators.

The development comes one month after the YouTube pages of Sony and Universal lost 2 billion YouTube views, largely because YouTube decided that videos migrated to the company's VEVO pages were "dead videos". While a small portion of the views stripped from Sony and Universal were due to what YouTube calls "de-spamming the data," the vast majority were taken away as a result of Sony, Universal and EMI's decision to bet on VEVO.

As NME notes, VEVO is owned by Sony and Universal Music Group.

Other artists affected by YouTube's housekeeping include Beyonce, Michael Jackson and Chris Brown. At the time of the original clean-up, singer Leona Lewis lost 24 million views.

In July 2011, Lady Gaga's YouTube account was suspended and promptly restored. Though Google (which owns YouTube) declined to comment, a notice on her channel read that it was guilty of "multiple or severe violations of YouTube's copyright policy."

Boy held hostage in bunker after being snatched from school bus

A boy was being held hostage in a bunker in Alabama early Wednesday by a man who seized him from a school bus after fatally shooting the driver, witnesses and police said.

Authorities were negotiating with the man overnight at the scene near Midland City.

The driver of the bus died from gunshot wounds on Tuesday afternoon and the suspect was not in custody, according to the Dale County Sheriff's Department.

Witnesses told NBC station WSFA that the suspect boarded the bus and ordered some children off before grabbing a boy aged 5 or 6, shooting the driver and fleeing towards his nearby home.

Michael Senn, who is minister of a nearby church, told the station that he spoke to several children on the bus, including a girl who said the driver was shot four times. He described one 13-year-old as "really traumatized."

Mike Creel, who said he was the suspect’s neighbor, told the station the suspect had hidden “in his homemade bomb shelter.” However, officials described it as a storm shelter.

Creel said the suspect has lived on the property for around two years and that the underground shelter was “one of the first things he started building."

The station said police believed the child was "OK" and that police were conducting negotiations with the suspect using a plastic pipe.

Other neighbors identified the suspect to the local newspaper, the Dothan Eagle, as a 67-year-old man. NBC News was unable to confirm this early Wednesday.

Lisa Harden, of the Dale County School District Office, said the bus was on a route that served all local schools, and had children of all ages on board.

Dale County and Ozark city schools will be closed Wednesday, officials said.

"Due to the sensitive nature of the open and ongoing incident, limited details are being released at this time," Dale County Sheriff's Department said in a 10 p.m. local time (11 pm. ET) Tuesday update.

10 Date Night Ideas For Exhausted Parents

Need ideas for a romantic evening out without the kids? We've got you covered.

Did you have an abundance of date night ideas early in your relationship? How about when you were newly married? As parents, what date night ideas do the two of you come up with these days? Do you even have a date night?

More from YourTango: Family Language [EXPERT]

When my daughter, now a high school sophomore, was much younger, one of the topics among parents at the playground was date night. There were many couples who paid for sitters and spent their entire romantic evening either talking about what their son or daughter had done that day, or wondering what the child was doing at that moment with the babysitter.

It's great to catch up on the latest developmental milestone or cute phrase from your daughter or son, but that's something that can be done after you've put the kids to bed. In hopes of stimulating your special time together, I offer the following date night ideas perfect for any parent:

    1. The daytime date "night." Contrary to the name of the article, make it a daytime date. During the day, you may be more awake and alert so you can actually enjoy each other's company. Many parents find that after a workday filled with responsibilities and pressure or a weekend that's packed with activities, they are too exhausted to enjoy each other's company. They sit across the table from each other and struggle to stay awake.

    2. Get nostalgic. Do something together that you enjoyed doing when you first met. It could be bowling, seeing a play or going to hear your favorite group. Doing an activity that's a "blast from the past" can help you reconnect.

Date night ideas three, four and five are ways to incorporate sex in to your plans. It's much more difficult to have a spontaneous sex life when there are little feet pattering around, so as unromantic as this may sound making plans to end your evening with a little romance makes the date that much more enjoyable.

    3. Role reversal. Instead of going out to dinner and a movie with your spouse, send your child and the sitter out to dinner and a movie. You and your spouse stay home and make full use of three hours of glorious privacy.

'Side Effects': Berlin Film Festival Will Feature Steven Soderbergh Movie

New movies from directors Steven Soderbergh and Gus Van Sant and a trio of films starring French divas will be competing this year at the Berlin International Film Festival.

A diverse selection of 19 movies, including films from Kazakhstan and Iran, will vie for the main Golden Bear prize at Europe's first major film festival of the year. The event runs from Feb. 7-17.

Van Sant's film about the shale gas industry, "Promised Land," starring Matt Damon, and Soderbergh's thriller "Side Effects," featuring Jude Law and Catherine Zeta-Jones, are the most prominent U.S. offerings.

There's a strong contingent from eastern Europe, including Oscar-winning Bosnian director Danis Tanovic's "An Episode in the Life of an Iron Picker," about a poor Gypsy family; Calin Peter Netzer's "Child's Pose," which highlights corruption in Romania; and Malgoska Szumowska's "In the name of," a film about a gay priest in Poland.

French actresses Juliette Binoche, Catherine Deneuve and Isabelle Huppert all star in separate competition entries this year – Binoche in "Camille Claudel 1915," about the French sculptor's later years; Deneuve in "On My Way;" and Huppert in "The Nun," a movie about a convent.

From Iran comes "Closed Curtain," directed by dissident filmmaker Jafar Panahi and fellow Iranian Kamboziya Partovi. Panahi was sentenced to house arrest in Iran and banned from filmmaking after being convicted in 2011 of "making propaganda" against Iran's ruling system. Festival director Dieter Kosslick said Panahi's no longer confined to his home but still isn't supposed to make films.

Kosslick said Monday that organizers "tried to bring new people who are making films for the first or second time into the program," continuing a tradition of having less-heralded directors rub shoulders with established names. This year, there's an entry from Kazakhstan – "Harmony Lessons," directed by Emir Baigazin.

The top prize will be awarded by a seven-member jury under Chinese director Wong Kar-wai, whose members include actor-director Tim Robbins. Wong's new movie about two kung fu masters, "The Grandmaster," is screening out of competition and will open the festival.

Brazil nightclub fire 'Like a war zone' with bodies piled

Guitarist Rodrigo Martins was preparing to launch into the sixth song of his band's set when he saw embers fall.

The acoustic foam insulation on the ceiling of the Kiss nightclub in the southern Brazilian city of Santa Maria was on fire, and it was beginning to spread.

The hot ash fell onto the stage and dance floor.

Comparisons drawn to R.I. nightclub fire

In front of him, a sea of people who moments earlier were dancing and singing along to the country-pop sounds of his band Gurizada Fandangueira began to realize something was wrong.

Suddenly, concertgoers were stampeding toward the club's only exit, pushing and shoving each other trying to get out.

Then, according to investigators and witnesses, somebody fell in the narrow, dark hallway that led to the windowless exit.

It was the last weekend of Brazil's summer break for many of the students, and the Kiss nightclub was packed early Sunday with young people, many of whom attended one of a number of universities and colleges in Santa Maria.

At least 231 people died and hundreds more were injured in the fire, which authorities believe began about 2:30 a.m. Sunday when the band's pyrotechnic show ignited insulation material.

Many apparently died from smoke inhalation. Others were trampled in the rush for the exits.

Of the dead, 101 were students at the Federal University of Santa Maria.

Another 120 remained hospitalized Monday morning, 79 in critical condition, authorities said.

About 2,000 people were inside the club when the fire broke out -- double the maximum capacity of 1,000, said Guido de Melo, a state fire official.

The roof collapsed in several parts of the building, trapping many inside. Firefighters found piles of bodies in the club's bathroom.

It looked, said state lawmaker Valderci Oliveira, "like a war zone.

Who Looked Best On The SAG Red Carpet?

The Golden Globes are over and the Oscars are still a few weeks away, which can mean just one thing...

    SAG Awards!

OK, fine. Maybe the Screen Actors Guild Awards aren't the sexiest, most exciting of the awards shows. But the A-list actors still dutifully don their designer gowns, spikey heels and million-dollar jewels and walk the red carpet, providing us all with a pre-Oscars fashion parade. And for that we are eternally grateful.

Below, check out our continuously-updated slideshow of all the best red carpet looks from the 2013 SAG Awards! Who had your favorite dress?

    Jennifer Lawrence's Lost MTV Promo

When "Silver Linings Playbook" star Jennifer Lawrence was accepting Outstanding Female Actor in a Leading Role at the 2013 SAG Awards on Sunday night, she remembered her first role: a television commercial for "My Super Sweet 16."

"I want to thank MTV," Lawrence said. "I'll explain that. I earned my SAG card when I was 14. I did an MTV promo for 'My Super Sweet 16.' And I remember getting it in the mail and it being the best day of my entire life, because it officially made me a professional actor, which put me in the category with all of you."

Lawrence was nominated in the category alongside Jessica Chastain, Marion Cotillard, Naomi Watts and Helen Mirren; she's the favorite to win Best Actress at the 85th annual Academy Awards on Feb. 24.

Illinois Driver's Licenses For Undocumented Immigrants Bill Signed Into Law Sunday

Illinois is the fourth state to allow undocumented immigrants to obtain a driver's license with a new law signed by the governor.

Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn signed the legislation Sunday surrounded by hundreds of supporters who say the measure will make Illinois' roads safer and expand opportunities for undocumented immigrants.

Quinn says people need a way to get to work, drive to the doctor and drive their children to school. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says the new law should serve as a model for the nation.

New Mexico and Washington both issue licenses to undocumented immigrants, while Utah issues permits.

Illinois officials say the dissemination of the temporary licenses is expected to begin in October.

The legislation was billed as a public safety measure and had bipartisan support.

Venezuela Prison Riot More Than 60 Reportedly Killed

The death toll has risen to 61 following fierce gunbattles between inmates and National Guard troops at a Venezuelan prison, a hospital director said Saturday. About 120 more people were wounded in one of the deadliest prison riots in the nation's history.

Penitentiary Service Minister Iris Varela said Saturday that officials had begun evacuating inmates from the Uribana prison in Barquisimeto and transferring them to other facilities, but she did not provide an official death toll.

However, Dr. Ruy Medina, director of Central Hospital in the city of Barquisimeto, told The Associated Press that the number of dead had risen to 61. He initially told Venezuelan news media after the Friday uprising that about 50 were killed.

Medina said that nearly all of the injuries were from gunshots and that 45 of the estimated 120 people who were wounded remained hospitalized. Some underwent surgeries for their wounds.

Relatives wept outside the prison during the violence, and cried at the morgue Saturday as they waited to identify bodies.

The riot was the latest in a series of deadly clashes in Venezuela's overcrowded and often anarchical prisons, where inmates typically obtain weapons and drugs with the help of corrupt guards. Critics called it proof that the government is failing to get a grip on a worsening national crisis in its penitentiaries.

The gunbattles seized attention amid uncertainty about President Hugo Chavez's future, while he remained in Cuba recovering and undergoing treatment more than six weeks after his latest cancer surgery.

Government officials pledged a thorough investigation, while some critics said there should have been ways for the authorities to prevent such bloodshed.

Nayibe Mendez, the mother of a 22-year-old inmate in the prison, told the AP that she was able to talk by phone with her son and he was uninjured.

Brazil Nightclub Fire Kills At Least 232 People

A fast-moving fire roared through a crowded nightclub in southern Brazil early Sunday, within seconds filling the space with flames and a thick, toxic smoke that killed more than 230 panicked partygoers who gasped for breath and fought in a stampede to escape.

It appeared to be the world's deadliest nightclub fire in more than a decade.

Firefighters responding to the blaze at first had trouble getting inside the Kiss nightclub because bodies partially blocked the club's entryway.

Witnesses said a flare or firework lit by band members started the blaze in Santa Maria, a university city of about 260,000 people. Officials at a news conference said the cause was still under investigation – though police inspector Sandro Meinerz told the Agencia Estado news agency the band was to blame for a pyrotechnics show and that manslaughter charges could be filed.

Television images showed black smoke billowing out of the Kiss nightclub as shirtless young men who had attended a university party joined firefighters using axes and sledgehammers to pound at windows and hot-pink exterior walls to free those trapped inside.

Bodies of the dead and injured were strewn in the street and panicked screams filled the air as medics tried to help. There was little to be done; officials said most of those who died were suffocated by smoke within minutes.

Within hours a community gym was a horror scene, with body after body lined up on the floor, partially covered with black plastic as family members identified kin.

Outside the gym police held up personal objects – a black purse, a blue high-heeled shoe – as people seeking information on loved ones looked crowded around, hoping not to recognize anything being shown them.

Guido Pedroso Melo, commander of the city's fire department, told the O Globo newspaper that firefighters had a hard time getting inside the club because "there was a barrier of bodies blocking the entrance."

Teenagers sprinted from the scene after the fire began, desperately seeking help. Others carried injured and burned friends away in their arms. Many of the victims were under 20 years old, including some minors.

"There was so much smoke and fire, it was complete panic, and it took a long time for people to get out, there were so many dead," survivor Luana Santos Silva told the Globo TV network.

The fire spread so fast inside the packed club that firefighters and ambulances could do little to stop it, Silva said.

Taylor Swift Broke Up With Harry Styles Because of His Foreskin

Earlier this week, there was a report that Taylor Swift broke up with Harry Styles because he kissed like a snail and no one wants to kiss a snail. Unless the snail is a banana slug which is just a snail without a shell. Anyhoo, the gist of the story was they had a lack of chemistry on account of Styles dragging his tongue across her mouth during every kiss.

Now the National Enquirer has a new report that says the real reason they broke up was because Taylor wouldn’t stop making fun of Harry’s uncircumcised penis. A source says Harry ended it because he was sick of Taylor “nagging him about clipping his [penis].” Apparently, Taylor didn’t like that Harry wasn’t circumcised so she kept pushing him to get it cut.

Harry told her it wasn’t ever going to happen. Whenever Taylor brought it up, Harry would roll his eyes and ignore her but eventually he couldn’t take it anymore.

What I want to know is how Taylor is going to work that into a song. She’ll have to use a euphemism like this dude had a pet aardvark she didn’t like and she asked him to get rid of it but he said no so obviously it was all his fault and now she’s living in a big old city and all he’s ever going to be is foreskinny.

Dana White Calls Justin Timberlake a Dickhead

Shots fired! Shots fired! UFC president Dana White has an interview in Sports Illustrated where he talks about the UFC, women in the UFC, gays in the UFC and Justin Timberlake being a dickhead to his kids.

You told me the story, and I can’t remember the specifics. You met some celebrity or someone and they didn’t give you the time day and it stuck with you. You said, ‘When somebody shouts out to me in a crowd or someone says can I talk to you…

That story you are talking about was when I was a kid. It was at the library here in Vegas and it was the guy from like the Channel 13 news. I was a little kid and I ran up to him and I was like, ‘Hey, could I get your autograph?’ Could not have been a bigger d—.

Yeah, I was so blown away by that. That was like the first celebrity I had ever seen. He was such a d—. Yeah, you know, I said I would never treat people like that and never be like that.

Recently me and my wife were at Nickelodeon Awards and we were backstage with the Black Eyed Peas in their dressing room hanging out.

First of all, this thing is in L.A., so every guy on the planet wants to get their kids backstage with all the people that are back there. They had Bieber, Selena Gomez, all these people are back there. So my kids are back there and they’re taking pictures with all these people and stuff.

There [are] no other kids backstage. No other kids. Just my kids, and I think I have Lorenzo’s daughter with me, too. This was a few years ago. You name it, A-list, all the A-listers that the kids would love are backstage.

The biggest d—head back there was Justin Timberlake.

        Don’t say that.

Just such a complete jack off, yeah.

        Blew your kids off?

        Just couldn’t have been a bigger d—.

        He’s a big UFC fan, I thought.

I don’t know if he’s a UFC fan or not, but I’m not a big Timberlake fan. Takes two seconds to say hi to a kid. Takes two seconds. I never run by anybody. If you’re a fan of the UFC and you like it or your kids like it, why would I not want to talk to you? Why would I not?

White doesn’t go into anymore details other than Timberlake blew him and his kids off. Granted, this could just sound like a fan venting because he was shunned but you have to remember, Dana isn’t the first person to call Justin a dickhead. Tales of his dickheadishness are known far and wide and told across many great lands. You could even say Justin is like a Moby Dickhead.
