  • Olympian and fighter Ronda Rousey calls out Michael Phelps’ behavior in Beijing

Before becoming an MMA fighter and the Strikeforce bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey made her name by winning a bronze medal in judo at the Beijing Olympics. In a recent interview with Elie Seckbach, she talked about how great it was for all Olympians, no matter the stature, to get together and have fun.

Well, almost all Olympians. There was one Olympian who didn't want to mingle: Michael Phelps.

Rousey said while at a party for all American Olympians, the athletes happily mingled together. NBA players hung with the rest of the group, but Phelps had his own area that was just for his group.

"These NBA players are a bigger deal than this guy, and they're hanging out with us. We're teammates. We're not a bunch of groupies. Come hang out with us," Rousey said.

She said it was a similar set-up when Team USA visited "The Oprah Winfrey Show," which rubbed her the wrong way.

"I don't like being somebody's teammate and being treated like I'm a groupie.
swimmer before I did this stuff, and you can't tell me that swimming is OH MY GOD, because it's not."

Rousey isn't the first athlete to criticize Phelps, who can break Larissa Latynina's all-time medal record with three medals in London. Fellow swimmer Tyler Clary questioned Phelps' work ethic after the Olympic Trials.

Rwanda's B-Boys: From the streets to break beats

Sporting a black t-shirt proudly proclaiming "Live 2 Break," a group of grinning boys form a slightly jagged circle inside a dusty yard on the outskirts of Kigali, Rwanda's capital.

Inside the circle a bandana-wearing dance instructor spins from his back onto his chest flaring his legs high in the air in a V-shape. The boys respond to his virtuoso dance moves with claps and cheers before taking to the floor themselves, twisting and turning as they try to perfect their breakdance moves.

They are part of an uplifting dance project at Les Enfants De Dieu, a residential care center working to transform the lives of former street children in Rwanda.

The center accommodates 126 boys aged six to 18 who, apart from their tough upbringing, share a deep passion for an art form that also originated in the streets: Hip-hop.

"Once their basic needs are fulfilled, they need to nourish their spirit, their self-esteem and their pride in themselves," says Nicola Triscott, co-founder of Catalyst Rwanda, a UK-based group that organizes art programs for vulnerable youth.

"I think hip-hop really helps to do that, because it's such a young person's art form -- it came off the streets and it's about one-on-one teaching. There's this great spirit of sharing in hip hop," she adds.

Authorities plan to enter apartment of suspect in Colorado movie theater massacre

Authorities plan to enter the booby- trapped apartment of the suspect in the deadly shooting spree at an Aurora, Colo., movie theater Saturday.

The suspect, James Holmes is accused of going on a shooting rampage at the movie theater during Friday’s midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises.” He was packing as many as 6,000 rounds of ammunition with the ability to shoot up to 50 a minute, police said.

Holmes’ apartment is believed to be loaded with explosives. Attempts to enter the apartment Friday were unsuccessful and police postponed efforts until Saturday.  The FBI, ATF and local authorities are working together to enter the apartment.

Sgt. Cassidy Carlson of the Aurora Police Dept. said that authorities have broken the mission down into three phases and plan to carry them out throughout Saturday.

"There are still unknowns, we're not exactly sure of everything that's in there," Sgt. Carlson said. The unknown includes jars that are believed to contain accelerates.

The first phase will be to render the area safe and address the immediate threat of the wire trip booby trap, which may include a controlled detonation. The public has been warned that parts of these phases may cause loud booms and have planned for reverse 911 calls for the area so that the public may remain informed.

Authorities say they will send a robot into the apartment.

The second phase will be to dispose of the aerial shells which will include placing the devices into sand trucks and taken to a disposal site for a controlled detonation. Authorities believe there may be up to as many as 30 shells.

The third phase will be the investigation of the apartment itself.

"There is no timeline, I can't give you an end time," Sgt. Carlson said. "We don't need to rush anything," she said.

After day of agony, families in Colorado get tragic confirmation

Amidst the terror and fear inside the movie theater as a gunman sprayed bullets, there were also moments of heroism, as emerging stories show.

Matt McQuinn was one of the 12 killed in the mass shooting in Aurora, Colorado.

McQuinn was attempting to provide cover for his girlfriend when he was hit, said a family attorney, Robert L. Scott.

He saved Samantha Yowler's life, though she was hit by a bullet, Scott said. She is recovering at the hospital.

More stories are expected to surface Saturday morning when police publicly release a list of the victims.

With song and prayer, shooting victims remembered

Grief counselors were available Saturday to help the bereaved in the Colorado shooting, hours after authorities started the dreadful task of notifying relatives of the victims of the movie theater massacre.

"It took about 19 hours to hear from law enforcement, which was agonizing and I thought just outright cruel to all the victims' families," said Anita Busch, who said her cousin, Micayla Medek, was among those killed. "We had been desperately trying to find her."

Families of the deceased had not been notified until Friday night because an active investigation was under way at the crime scene in Aurora, police said.

Alex Sullivan's relatives were also among those who got the dreaded news.

"The Sullivan family lost a cherished member of their family," a representative for the family said in a statement. "Alex was smart, funny, and above all loved dearly by his friends and family. Today was his 27th birthday."

The Voice mentor says that he had zero qualms about stripping down for the sexy photoshoot:

I spend most of my life naked… In fact, I often have to be told by the people around me that it’s inappropriate to be as naked as I am. But I live in California, where it’s always warm, so why not?

Adam Levine drops all of his clothes in the new issue of Cosmo UK, a publicity shot meant to raise awareness for prostate and testicular cancer for Everyman.

This time, it was his girlfriend Anne Vyalitsyna getting her hold on him, with her hands the only things covering Levine's privates from the camera.

Levine is no stranger to nudity, telling the magazine: "I spend most of my life naked. In fact, I often have to be told by the people around me that it's inappropriate to be as naked as I am. But I live in California, where it's always warm, so why not?"

Tom and Suri were last spotted in public together on June 16, when they dined at Sushi Samba in Reykjavik, Iceland, along with Katie. It was no doubt an emotional reunion for father and daughter, who have been keeping in touch via phone and video chat in recent weeks. It would have been even more poignant given last night's scare which saw Katie and Suri involved in a car accident, capping off a tumultuous time for the little girl. The former Dawson's Creek actress and her six-year-old child were riding in the back of a black Mercedes sedan when it was struck by a garbage truck in New York yesterday evening. No one was reported hurt in the incident, which onlookers say was minor. One source said: “It was nothing major other than the fact that it was Katie Holmes." Police arrived on the scene and noted the actress' chauffeur-driven vehicle had sustained a large dent and several scratches to the rear driver side panel after the Volvo truck - from Classic Sanitation Recycling New York Corp - had apparently backed into the luxury vehicle. Katie - who filed for divorce from her daughter's father, actor Tom Cruise, last month - and Suri were not seen at the scene of the crash. Following her split from Tom, Katie has secured primary custody of their little girl in an undisclosed divorce agreement.

Michelle Jenneke: Australian hurdler, dancing sensation

The 100-meter hurdles and the Internet just got a little sexier thanks to a racy pre-race warmup routine by Australia's Michelle Jenneke.

If her goal was to get the blood pumping, it apparently worked (and for Jenneke, too), as the 19-year-old dominated the IAAF World Junior Championship in Barcelona last weekend. Along the way, she became a viral video sensation (videos such as the one you no doubt just played -- be honest -- are getting clicked as fast as, well, as fast as Michelle Jenneke runs the 100-meter hurdles).

According to Bleacher Report, sports blog With Leather posted raw, live-stream footage of Jenneke's prerace routine, then went back and edited it with an "overt celebration of Jenneke and her dancing and running presented in gratuitous slow motion, and with an awful song over it."

But then, that's just their opinion.

What seems clear is that this is one athlete who embraces the joy of running, and given some of the high-strung language accompanying track athletes these days, a little fun is a welcome thing.
In the 2010 Youth Games in Singapore, Jenneke took silver in the 100-meter hurdles. But after her gold in Barcelona, her star is on the rise.  She won't be competing in the London Games -- much to the chagrin of many Internet users -- but she might just be loosening up for a samba in Rio in 2016.

Speed Up Weight Loss by Eating Slow

Very often you will see me write stories on our Health Channel that are technical in nature and often built around some study recently performed at a major research institution. Today, I would like to start something a little different. What I would like to do puts me in a very vulnerable position. I hope for some of you that this will be helpful and that I build my credibility with you not only as an author, but as a real person going through some of the same challenges that many of you face. You see, I struggle with being overweight and have for a while now. It has been a steady increase and is a result of many factors, but mostly inactivity and over eating are to blame. Why do I say all of this? I say this because I am in the trenches just like many of you and I want you to know you’re not alone. I also want to be able to share, from time to time, some of the things that have worked for me and some that haven’t. I’d like to call this segment “Just One More Bite” because that seems to be a very big problem for me. Maybe I could call it “I’ll Have Another”, hmmm…, but I digress. Before I go any further, I must add a disclaimer. I am not a doctor, so please consult your doctor before you take any advice that I, or any health publication for that matter, might give. There’s a lot of pseudoscience out there, so please be careful!

I came across some good advice lately, that has really been a big help for me. When it comes to eating, slow and steady wins the race!
    Put the Fork Down

I am sure some of you probably heard things like “chew your food 32 times”, or “don’t inhale your food” from your Mom at the dinner table. It turns out, there is quite a bit of wisdom in those words. Paul McKenna, author of I Can Make You Thin, introduced a concept to me in his book. Basically, he says to “eat consciously and enjoy every mouthful”. This is one of his 4 golden rules that he lays out in his book. The gist of this statement is that you put the fork down between every bite.
