  • Pamplona Bull Running Festival 2011: Thousands Gather For 'Chupinazo' Launch

Tens of thousands of people packed Pamplona's main square Wednesday for the launch of the "chupinazo" rocket — the start of Spain's most famous bull-running festival. (Scroll down for photos)

Mayor Enrique Maya heralded the first of nine days of uninterrupted festivities in the northern town as he lit the fuse from a balcony overlooking a frenzied crowd.

"Men and women of Pamplona, Long Live San Fermin!" Maya screamed, as revelers sprayed a fountain of wine, sangria, water and cava into the air. Many used toy water pistols, or leather wineskins to squirt alcohol into the mouths of those who asked. Onlookers on balconies followed suit.

"It's way more than we expected, especially just the energy. And this is only, what, the opening?" said 37-year-old Brooklyn native Malika Oyo, who was partaking with her brother Yaka.

Beyonce 'Best Thing I Never Had' Video Features Lingerie, Wedding

The best thing Beyonce never had? Well, clothing, for starters...

Actually, it's an unnamed man who scorned her back in 1998, according to the brand spankin new video for her latest single, "The Best Thing I Never Had." The second track off her new album, "4," which premiered at number one on the Billboard Charts, the song is a ballad of love and revenge, with her lingerie moments matched to vindictive lines, and later, her wedding (not to Jay-Z, mind you) touching on the positive outcome of her heart break.

It is, to say the least, quite the transition from her first single off the album, "(Girls) Run The World."

Bunions: When Do They Become Something To Worry About?

Many people know the term 'bunion' and that it occurs on a foot, but don't know exactly what a bunion is. Most people think a bunion is an abnormal growth of bone at the base of the big toe. This is incorrect (at least in most cases). A bunion is actually a structural problem where the big toe joint becomes subluxed and drifts towards the smaller toes. A displaced bone, called a metatarsal, becomes prominent on the inside of the foot. The bunion simply refers to the enlarged prominent 'knobby' area.

Bunions may progress in size and severity. A bunion may start of as minor issue and, over time, may develop into a severe disfiguring foot deformity. See below:

So if you have bunion, here are 10 important things you should know, as you consider treatment:
    1. Not all bunions are painful.
    2. The medical term is hallux abducto valgus.
    3. They come in different sizes: small, medium, large or severe.
    4. Genetics. You may have inherited your grandmothers feet.
    5. They occur more often in women than men.
    6. Pointy-toed shoes and high heels may result in bunions.
    7. Bunions may get bigger over time, or not.
    8. The bunion may cause problems with the lesser toes.
    9. Non-operative treatments are mostly aimed at treating the symptoms.
    10. Surgical treatment goals are to realign the natural position of the toe.
    When to seek treatment?
There is not a specific point when bunion sufferers 'must' start treatment despite the bunion severity. Some people begin treatment with the smallest bunion while others neglect the condition until severe. Reasons to seek medical treatment are:

  • Presence of Pain? Pain and discomfort is the most common reason to seek treatment. Pain directly on the bunion is a symptom of direct shoe pressure. Joint pain suggests arthritic degeneration. Pain on the ball of the foot is concerning for altered foot biomechanics and a sign of a bigger problem. Pain should not be ignored.

  • Interference with Activity? Some people wait until a bunion interferes with activities before seeking medical treatment and I think this is a mistake. Impact activities (such as running, tennis) may be more challenging to perform. If left ignored, simple everyday walking may become problematic. You should take measures that keep you active and healthy.

  • Inability to Wear Certain Shoes? In this subset of patients, it's the sheer size of the bunion preventing fashionable shoes that motivates treatment -- not pain. These patients have learned to live with discomfort but chose fashion over foot health. Clearly, inability to wear shoes is a valid reason for intervention.

  • An Unsightly Bunion? Foot care experts are less concerned with cosmetic appearance as they are about pain, activity restrictions and overall foot function. Often insurance companies only cover medical bunion treatments if pain is present, regardless of size.

  • Overlapping toes? When the second toe has overlapped the big toe, it's an obvious indicator of a global foot problem, and is often associated with collapse of the foot. Interestingly, these problems are not always painful as the condition develops overtime and the pain may be muted, or patients have accepted a certain amount of foot discomfort. The driving force for treatment becomes secondary problems such as metatarsal stress fractures or inability to fit shoes.

  • Lady Gaga's Meat Bikini: Tasteful Or Tasteless?

We thought we'd seen everything in terms of Lady Gaga's outfits--she's worn telephones as hats, cigarettes as sunglasses, PVC to meet the Queen, decorated her Birkin Bag...well, we could go on forever. But her latest outfit for Vogue Hommes Japan takes the cake. Gaga dons a bikini and a tiny beret made from raw steaks and her lips and nails are painted red. Take a look and tell us what you think.

Nicola Formichetti Appointed Creative Director Of Thierry Mugler

Paris-based fashion house Thierry Mugler has tapped Lady Gaga's stylist, Nicola Formichetti, as creative director for its women's and menswear labels.

The label said in a statement Monday that Formichetti, who is also fashion director with Vogue Hommes Japan, is to begin with the fall-winter 2011-2012 collections.

    Formichetti, a half-Japanese, half-Italian 33-year-old, replaces Spaniard Rosemary Rodriguez.

Formichetti will oversee Mugler's head women's designer Sebastien Peigne, formerly of Balenciaga, and head menswear designer Romain Kremer, who also designs his own signature label.

"We were looking for a young talent who could really bring new energy to the brand," the statement quoted the brand's director general, Joel Palix, as saying.

Nicola Formichetti Explains 'That Was The Last Time I Tried To Work With Fat People' Comment

Nicola Formichetti found himself in a tight spot on Tuesday when a W profile on the designer hit the web. Now he has responded with a Facebook campaign.

Within the otherwise flattering article in W's July issue appeared this damning paragraph:

One shoot, which involved dressing a rock band, was particularly unfortunate. "I was only used to dressing models and skinny kids," he recalled. "And I turned up and it was, like, three fat guys. I just left. That was the last time I tried to work with fat people. I think one of them was Ali G's brother. It was so ghetto."

The comment immediately made the rounds, putting Formichetti on the wrong side of the plus-size models conversation that has been ongoing in the fashion industry.

What made the anti-fat remark particular strange was that it came from Formichetti, who as creative director for both Dazed & Confused and Lady Gaga has always promoted individuality and boundary-pushing fashion.

So we suppose it makes sense that later Tuesday night, Formichetti took to Facebook to declare that W misquoted him and that he does in fact work with plus-size models.

Crossposted to his Twitter feed (and his 81,258 followers), the designer put up images of his past editorial work with plus-size models, captioning the images, "i know i should just leave it but...i really hate when writers just write whatever they want... "i dont work with fat people..." why would someone say such a thing?!"

He added, "GOD MAKES NO MISTAKES -AMEN FASHION... dont believe all what you read on line... no matter if you are fat, skinny or whatever, we're all born this way."

Although it's hard to believe W would completely twist his words, Formichetti certainly has a positive track record when it comes to body image and working with people of all sizes. We're definitely inclined to give this guy another shot.
