Chris Evans In 'Puncture': From Super To Anti-Hero

There's just something about Chris Evans and needles.

Over the summer, a set of experimental injections turned the 30-year old actor into iconic comic book hero Captain America, ripped with muscle and fueled by the earnest virtue of his unblinking moralism. The film earned strong reviews and opened number one at the box office, catapulting his star to new heights. But for all the newfound success and accolades, it's a different needle that truly pierces Evans' heart.

Downshifting from 3D stadium seating to indie picture houses, Evans next stars as a frenetically brilliant, drug addicted lawyer in "Puncture." The film, the true story of a pair of small town Texas lawyers that take on an evil medical conglomerate, sees Evans play a functioning drug addict who lives life on the very edge. If Captain America action figures stretch stars and stripes over a super soldier body, a plastic model of attorney Mike Weiss would be its demented twin, instead covered in tattoos and scruffy beard wet with cocaine nose bleeds.

It was a part Evans was set on taking almost immediately after he began reading the script.

"Twenty pages in, it's one of those movies that I read that, if you really start liking something, I find that i just get on my feet and just start saying lines," Evans told The Huffington Post. "You almost start acting it, just feeling what it feels like with the words in your mouth. Halfway through, before I even knew where the movie was going, I was like, I wanna do this, I like this guy, I like this character."

Weiss and his partner, Paul Danzinger, are hired as the only firm willing to take on a lawsuit brought on by a nurse pricked by an HIV-positive patient's syringe. Now dying from the disease, she's suing to help make sure the ingenius accident-proof needles invented by her friend are used in hospitals to help others avoid her fate. Thanks to an array of secret kickbacks and bribes between hospitals and Group Purchasing Organizations, the inventor can't even get a meeting. The film sees Weiss cascade between philandering junkie to whip-smart crusader fighting passionately for the cause, even as the powers that be -- and his own, more cautious partner -- urge him to drop the case.

That juxtaposition, the often violent clash of his selfish and selfless ways, was part of the role's great appeal.

"It's a fun balance between -- he's such a vile guy. He has so many horrible qualities, but he still has to be likable," Evans explained. "So it's fun trying to toe the line between someone who you kind of want to strangle and someone you don't want to cut out of your life. He's still got this genius, he's still brilliant, he's still charismatic, he's still all these fantastic things, but kind of a dick. It's fun to try to find that balance.

Brought the story on a cold submission by Paul Danzinger himself, directors Adam and Mark Kassen warmed to it immediately. "Our assistant read it and said, You've really got to pay attention to this. It's raw but there's something here. And we really felt, wow, you know, if we can really take it and maybe give it some great structure, we can do some things," Mark explained. It helped that there was an emotional hook to it, too; their father owned a medical supply company and mother who worked as a nurse for over four decades.

Catherine Kieu Becker Accused Of Cutting Off Her Estranged Husband's Penis

A Southern Californian woman is accused of cutting off the penis of her estranged husband. She was arrested late last night after investigators responded to a 911 call and is now in custody at the Orange County Jail.
Catherine Kieu Becker of Garden Grove reportedly prepared dinner for her husband and put a poisonous substance or drug in his food to make him drowsy, reports KTLA. While the man was sleeping, Becker allegedly tied him to the bed. When he awakened, Becker cut his penis off with a knife and threw it into the garbage disposal, turning it on as she did so.
Lt. Jeff. Nightengale told NBC LA that Becker called 911 at around 10 p.m. requesting emergency assistance. Nightengale said that Becker "told responding officers that he 'deserved it.'" Nightengale also revealed that the married couple was going through a divorce.
Nightengale spoke with the HuffPost and confirms that the victim has been upgraded to stable or good condition and is being treated at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange. Nightengale also says that pieces of the severed member were recovered from the crime scene and transported to the hospital with the victim last night, but he has no details on how the surgery went. Police hope to interview the victim either today or tomorrow.
Becker has been charged with "aggravated mayhem, false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon, administering a drug with intent to commit a felony, poisoning and spousal abuse," according to the Associated Press. The most serious of these charges is "aggravated mayhem," which carries a life sentence with possibility of parole (as opposed to just "mayhem," which has a sentence of 3-5 years).
Of the aggravated mayhem charge, Nightengale says, "It's so heinous -- we're looking at this as premeditated. Her intention was to permanently deprive him of a piece of his body and do it in such a way to inflict a great amount of pain and psychological damage." He also adds, "I've been doing this for 22 years and the only other time I remember this happening was when Lorena Bobbitt did it, and that didn't even happen here. This isn't a typical domestic violence case -- it was way over the top."

Robyn Lawley Talks About Transition From Straight-Size To Plus-Size Model

Plus-size models are fashion's topic du jour, particularly in light of Vogue Italia's recent cover featuring three curvy, lingerie-clad models photographed by Steven Meisel.

Among the new guard of plus-size beauties is Robyn Lawley, one of the three stunners shot by Vogue Italia and a self-described former "skinny model." She told Models.com (video below), "I wasn't a straight-size model for long. I've always naturally been just a bigger girl. So, I found out I could model plus-size around 19. My sister suggested it to me. I just thought it was for older women, I didn't think I could do it at my age. I was quite offended in the beginning."

Now she's left all those doubts behind, having landed the cover of French Elle this past April in addition to the much-discussed Vogue Italia gig.

The Cut caught up with Lawley to get her two cents on the peculiar world of plus-size modeling and other less conventional topics. Fun facts we learned:

    On her diet:

Although I am indulgent with my food, cooking is also a passion of mine. I love to make food from scratch and eating well. I've always been a very active, sporty girl so I get my workouts in. It sucks when people automatically think plus-size girls are unfit, fat girls.

On the advice she'd give to aspiring models:

If being a model is not working for you, stop trying to obtain it. I've seen girls stare at a yogurt container calorie box for hours on end, deliberating whether they should eat it. Look, if it's not working for you, hell, come to the plus-size world.

On her least favorite body part:

My worst feature is my feet. I have hobbit feet from wearing too small shoes while modeling.

Mia Amber Davis Died From Blood Clot In Lungs

Mia Amber Davis, the plus-size model and "Road Trip" actress who unexpectedly passed away during routine knee surgery in May, died from a blood clot in her lungs, E! Online reports.
The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office released an updated death certificate after an autopsy and a series of toxicology tests were performed, finding that Davis had a pulmonary thrombo-embolism.
According to TMZ.com, Davis' husband Michael Yard believes that the surgery was responsible for the blood clot, claiming Davis was healthy before arriving at the hospital. The site explains, he "asked the Coroner's Officer if it meant she died as a result of the surgery...but the office said they could not give a definitive answer."
Davis' death shocked her supporters two months ago. The beauty was best-known for her work with Ashley Stewart, being the face of Jill Scott's Butterfly Bra, a cameo in the movie "Road Trip," and serving as Creative Editor-at-Large for Plus Model Magazine.

Jaycee Dugard Describes 18 Years Of Captivity In First Interview

Talking through tears, a California woman held captive for nearly two decades told of the pain and determination as she gave birth to her captor's child in his backyard prison, while she was still just a young teenager.

"It was very painful," Jaycee Dugard told ABC News' Diane Sawyer in an interview on "Primetime" that aired Sunday night. "She came out and then I saw her. She was beautiful. I felt like I wasn't alone anymore. I had somebody who was mine."

The 31-year-old woman, usually clear and composed, grew emotional when she talked about seeing the first of two girls fathered by her kidnapper, Phillip Garrido.

When Sawyer asked how old she was at the time of the birth in the San Francisco Bay Area city of Antioch she said "14" with a small, incredulous laugh and a shake of her head.

She said she didn't know how she could protect the child, but said "I knew I could never let anything happen to her. I didn't know how I was going to do that, but I did."

Dugard talked to Sawyer on a couch and on a porch at her California home. The blond hair she had in now-familiar photographs from her childhood is now reddish-brown, and she wore a red sweater and a necklace with a pinecone charm on it, representing the last thing she touched before her 18-year captivity.

The interview came on the eve of Dugard's memoir about her time in captivity, "A Stolen Life," which will be released Tuesday.

Dugard told Sawyer there was "a switch" she had to shut off to emotionally survive her rape and imprisonment. Asked by Sawyer how she stayed sane, Dugard said: "I don't know. I can't imagine being beaten to death, and you can't imagine being kidnapped and raped. You just do what you have to do to survive."

She described walking to the school bus stop on the day of a fifth-grade field trip and being zapped with a stun gun on a South Lake Tahoe street at age 11.

India Train Accident Leaves At Least 31 Dead, 100 Injured

Officials say the death toll from a train derailment in northern India has risen to 60 as more bodies are being pulled out of the mangled coaches.

The senior army official in charge of rescue operations at the accident site says volunteers and soldiers have pulled out 60 bodies from 12 coaches of the Kalka Mail, which went off the tracks Sunday afternoon.

Col. Amarjit Dhillon told the Associated Press on Monday that many more bodies were trapped under the twisted coaches and soldiers were using gas cutters to slice through the metal.

Rescue workers working through the night rescued many of the more than 100 injured in the accident near the town of Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh state.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

FATEHPUR, India (AP) – Rescuers searched for survivors in the wreckage of a packed express train that derailed in northern India on Sunday afternoon, killing at least 31 people, while officials said a second train derailment hundreds of miles (kilometers) to the northeast appeared to have been caused by a remote-controlled bomb.

Rescuers were working to reach the second derailment, which occurred late Sunday night in a rural area of Assam state, injuring at least 100. The two railway incidents did not appear to be related.

In the first crash, the Kalka Mail train was on its way to Kalka, in the foothills of the Himalayas, from Howrah, a station near Kolkata in eastern India, when 12 coaches and the engine jumped the tracks at Malwan station, near the town of Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh state, senior railway official A.K. Jain said.

The cause of the derailment was not immediately clear but it appeared that the driver applied the emergency brakes, Jain said.

At least 31 people were killed and rescue workers pulled at least 100 injured passengers out of the wreckage, said Brij Lal, a state police official.

Hours later, the second train derailed in the northeastern state of Assam, injuring at least 100 people, said S.K. Roy, a local magistrate.

Local police suspect that a remote control-triggered bomb caused four coaches of the Gauhati-Puri Express to be thrown off the tracks in the town of Rangiya, about 30 miles (50 kilometers) west of the state's capital, Gauhati, Roy said.

    S. Hajong, a local railways spokesman, said two of the four coaches plunged into a pond and casualties are feared.

Roy did not blame any rebel group and no one has taken responsibility for the attack so far. More than 30 groups in northeastern India have been fighting for decades for independence or wide autonomy in the region, about 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometers) east of New Delhi.

It was the third train accident in India in the last four days. A train hit a bus at an unmanned railway crossing last Thursday, killing 35 people.

In Fatehpur, the accident site was a pile of twisted metal. At least one coach flew above the roof of another ahead of it and was dangling precariously, television footage showed. Another coach was thrown away from the rest of the train.

Jennifer Aniston On 'Inside The Actors' Studio': Talks 'Friends,' 'The Breakup,' More

Having recently been named the next recipient of a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star, Jennifer Aniston is moving on to the next stop on the certified legendary actor train: a visit to "Inside The Actors' Studio."

With nearly two decades of Hollywood dominance under her belt -- and a new career direction with her upcoming raunchfest of a film, "Horrible Bosses" -- Aniston took time to reflect on the role that truly launched her to superstardom.

"It's one of the greatest jobs I ever had," Aniston said of her NBC sitcom, "Friends." "It gave me everything. It gave me this ridiculously blessed life and career and taught me so much, and it's the best time I ever had."

The love she felt for the show made it quite difficult to film that final episode.

"It was just awful. The last scene, we just wept, cried our eyes out, in front of the whole show," she said. "A couple of us stayed really late and we crawled up to the roof of stage 24 and we drank champagne and just watched the sunrise. It was really wonderful."

When it came to launching a movie career, one of her first huge hits was "The Breakup," with Vince Vaughn. In it, she played one half of a couple that splits up, but loves their apartment so much, ends up cohabitating -- very gingerly. While her emotion for the show informed her final day on "Friends," it was her personal life -- (see: Pitt, Brad) -- that helped her make her "Break Up" performance memorable.

"It was just a beautiful story about a couple breaking up. And I was slightly familiar on the topic and the issue. And I sort of honestly felt like, what a great way to sort of exercise some of that," she said. "I enjoyed it. It really enjoyed it. You would think otherwise, because even the producers were like, 'I don't know if we should ask you to do this,' but I was like, why not? Turn the page, let's move on."

Horrible Bosses' Red Band Trailer: Jennifer Aniston Gets Raunchy, Charlie Day Gets Pissed

Almost two decades in to being one of America's Sweethearts, Jennifer Aniston is reaching a new high -- by going for a new low.
Aniston, as has been consistently highlighted, stars in the upcoming hard-R film, "Horrible Bosses," the tale of three men (Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day) who want to murder their, well, horrible bosses. Aniston plays one of those awful employers, a sexual harassment-happy dentist with a very non-traditional definition of rape.
And order in which she eats her courses at dinner.
Kevin Spacey and a barely recognizable Collin Farrell take on the roles of the other two bosses, while Jamie Foxx, as Motherf*cker Jones, plays a hitman inspiring the three beleaguered employees to pull off the killings.
This new trailer gives the most graphic details of the film yet; come July 8th, all the horribleness will be in full view.

Women Three Times More Likely To Experience 'Overwhelming' Financial Stress: Survey

Even in the aftermath of a "mancession," it's the women that say they are most struggling most mightily.

Women report experiencing nearly twice as much “high or overwhelming” financial stress as men, according to a new survey by Financial Finesse Inc. Indeed, 28 percent of women reported experiencing “high or overwhelming financial stress" during the first quarter of 2011, while only 17 percent of men reported having that same level of stress.

Women also are three times as likely to experience “overwhelming” financial stress -- the highest level listed -- at a rate of 9 percent. And of all employees surveyed, 65 percent reported experiencing some financial stress, the study added.

Women were most likely to feel a higher level of stress because of their larger sense of obligation to raising their children and safeguarding their home, said Gregory Ward, head research analyst at Financial Finesse Inc., according to Bloomberg News.

That additional obligation has adverse health effects. Financial stress causes an estimated 60 percent of illnesses, directly or indirectly, and the American Psychological Association has identified it as the leading cause of unhealthy behaviors such as overeating, smoking, and alcohol and drug addiction, according to the report.

The situation for women could get worse before it gets better. Deficit reductions that are currently being considered by Congress would hurt women’s Social Security benefits even more than men’s Social Security benefits, since women live longer and rely more on Social Security, according to a new report by the National Women’s Law Center.

Since older women already are more economically vulnerable than men, the report says, deficit cuts would leave elderly women unable to meet many basic needs.

The dim economic situation seems to have even changed the way women think about marriage. Three out of four women would not marry a jobless man, and 65 percent said they would feel uncomfortable marrying someone else if they themselves were unemployed, according to a recent ForbesWoman survey.

Norma Stitz, Woman With World's Biggest Natural Breasts: 'I'm Human Like Everybody Else'

Née Annie Hawkins-Turner, the 52-year-old for Atlanta, Georgia, has the world's largest natural breasts (as reportedly confirmed by Guinness) -- 102ZZZs. That's 3.5 feet of cleavage and each side weighs in at 56 pounds.

Hawkins-Turner made headlines on Thursday after appearing on UK's "This Morning" to talk about her assets with hosts Phillip Schofield and Jenni Falconer.

On getting her first bra when she was 10:

"I don't know what size I was. I was just big. The only thing I remember about those bras is they were cotton and they stuck out just like footballs and that's when I knew I was different. Kids are some of the worst people in the world when it comes to picking on people. I was teased a lot."

    On her daily routine:

"When I go out of my house I have to think about what my day is going to be like and who is going to attack me today. Every day someone teases me that doesn't know me. They make fun of me and there's no reason. I'm human like everybody else."

    On her late husband Alan:

"He turned my whole life around. He made me love myself and turned me into his Barbie doll. I was like a plus-sized Barbie doll to him. He treated me like a queen. He loved me and he loved my kids. He was my angel, it wasn't just sexual."

On the work she's done for adult websites:

"I've shown people big is beautiful and you can be sexy in your own way. It's not mucky, I'm an entertainer. I talk to you, I'm your fantasy. When I talk to you it's because there are things in your mind that you want to do to me. But in reality you'd never meet me."

Erin Andrews Confronts Kid Over Peephole Video Comment

If you're trying to get Erin Andrews' autograph, it's probably not a good idea to mention the peephole video.

That is exactly what happened at the NCAA College World Series when a couple of fans kept calling out for Andrews to sign an autograph. After spending a few minutes calling her name and trying to grab the ESPN reporter's attention, one of the kids shouted, "I’m gonna watch your video tomorrow."

That didn't sit well with Andrews, who immediately looked over to the fans and stared them down.

She walked over to the stands and confronted the fan. She asked him to repeat himself, but he refused.

"If you are going to be cool enough to say that, man up to it," she said.

In the summer of 2009, Andrews was secretly videotaped while she was naked in her hotel room. The video was posted on the internet by a man named Michael David Barrett.

Barrett, 49, admitted to stalking Andrews for 18 months and was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in federal prison.

Kathie Lee And Hoda Get Wasted In Aspen

Apparently, Hoda and Kathie Lee went west over the weekend, to the annual Food And Wine Classic in Aspen, Colorado. (It's the event that all the Top Chefs on "Top Chef" get to go to.)
On Monday, the "Today" co-hosts showed some footage from their pilgrimage to the decadent gathering. From what the cameras picked up, the whole trip was an excuse to drink and drink and eat and drink and drink and eat and drink and be fed grapes and drink. Hoda and Kathie Lee even had bottles of wine attached to their bicycles so they could have a glass at a moment's notice

President Obama Can Charm Even A Hysterically Crying Baby

With his daughters in double digits, President Obama probably hasn't had to soothe a sobbing baby for several years.

But in the video below, the Dad-In-Chief looks like a total pro. When a fan gives her crying child to Michelle and the baby wails away, Barack laughs and says, "You better give her back!" But instead Michelle hands the little girl over and much to everyone's shock (especially Michelle -- that facial expression is priceless), the baby immediately stops crying.

President Obama, meanwhile, just bounces the tot around with an "I told you so" smile on his face. Yeah, he's that good.

Bad Teacher: Cameron Diaz Gets Raunchy In Gag Reel

Cameron Diaz will display an impressive sex drive and filthy mouth in her upcoming comedy, "Bad Teacher."
Turns out that, in real life, she can be even dirtier.
Diaz goofs up alongside Justin Timberlake and Jason Segel in this gag reel for the film, which hits theaters June 24th. Diaz plays a bitter junior high teacher whose life gets thrown out of whack when the rich man she's set to marry dumps her -- now, she actually has to teach indefinitely, not retire once she gets that ring.
Justin Timberlake is the sweet, naive and well-inherited rich new teacher whom she sets her sights on, while Segel is the much better fit of a man who wants to learn some very intimate lessons from Diaz.
As awkward as her relationship with Timberlake is on screen, the pair of exes didn't have a problem at all working with each other.
"We wanted the best person for the job, and Justin was that person," Diaz told the Associated Press in March. "He's such a great comedian. He's proven himself over and over again... The only thing that I think we were concerned with was what people would make up. The stories that people would make up about us. We were hoping that wouldn't happen, because we're there to work, and we didn't want to have to be distracted by any of those things. And fortunately, for the most part, the media behaved themselves."
