  • ASUS MARS II gets reviewed, deemed the fastest single graphics card on the market

ASUS MARS II gets reviewed, deemed the fastest single graphics card on the market:

Well, that insane ASUS MARS II card we got to feast our eyes on back in June has finally started rolling off the assembly line. That means it’s time for the hardware fanatics and gaming freaks to start putting them through their paces. HotHardware said the dual GTX 580-packing card was “quite simply the fastest single graphics card we have ever tested, bar none.” And everyone else seemed to agree. Now, obviously there are drawbacks — the 3GB card is an absolute power hog (requiring 600-watts all by itself) and insanely pricey at $ 1,499. You could even buy three separate GTX 580 cards for slightly less, use the same number of slots and get better performance, but the MARS II has one other thing going for it — status. Only 999 of these beasts will be made. After they’re all snatched up you’ll have to head to eBay, and pay a hefty premium over it’s already absurd price. But, if you absolutely have to have the best performance you can out of a single card solution, this is the clear choice. If you need more detail about just how badly this spanks the competition check out the reviews below.

Dhanush’s ‘Mappillai’ Producer files fresh case on Sun Pictures

Dhanush’s ‘Mappillai’ Producer files fresh case on Sun Pictures:

Chennai city police have slapped another fresh case against the COO of Sun Pictures W Hansraj Saxena, based on the complaint of a film producer Nemichand Jhabak, who produced the movie ‘Mappillai’ starring Dhanush and Hansika Motwani. This is the third case registered against the Saxena in the past one week.

Dhanushs Mappillai Producer files fresh case on Sun Pictures

According to Jhabak, he sold the film rights to Sun Pictures for Rs 17 crore in 2010. Though, he got the money from Sun Pictures, subsequently he was intimidated by Saxena and a portion of the money was extorted from him. Police said, Sun Pictures COO Saxena had approached Jhabak and struck a deal to give the rights of the movie to Sun Pictures. Jhabak demanded Rs 17 crore for giving the film rights to Sun Pictures. As per the deal, Sun Pictures gave him the money. Subsequently, he was threatened with dire consequences and Sun Pictures got back the money Rs 3.37 crore forcefully from Jhabak citing that the film didn’t go well as expected in the state.

In his four page complaint submitted before the inspector of police, Kodambakkam, he claimed that he didn’t know the ways to complaint against Sun Pictures at that time. Now, he has approached the police, as things have been changed, he claimed.

Based on Jhabak’s complaint, Kodambakkam police have registered a case against Saxena under Sections 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death), 420 (cheating), 406 (punishment for cheating) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code.

“We will approach the magistrate court concerned to issue necessary orders to arrest Saxena in the new case. Then, Saxena will be produced before the magistrate court and will be informed about his arrest in the fresh case. Saxena will be remanded for 15 days in the fresh case too,” a police officer said.

Saxena was first arrested by the KK Nagar police, based on the complaint of a film distributor TS Selvaraj for cheating the amount Rs 82.53 lakh for the release of the Tamil movie ‘Theeratha Vilayattu Pillai’. Subsequently, Saxena’s associate Ayyappan was also arrested in this case. KK Nagar police slapped another fresh case against Saxena, based on Shanmugavelu’s complaint. Shanmugavelu got the film distribution rights for the movie ‘Theeratha Vilayattu Pillai’ and later he withdrew to distribute the movie in Salem area. He was allegedly threatened and forced to give Rs 45 lakh to Saxena.

Halo’s 10th anniversary marked with new maps and 3D content

Halo’s 10th anniversary marked with new maps and 3D content:

The 10th anniversary of iconic Microsoft Xbox 360 video game Halo will be marked by the announcement of three new multiplayer maps and 3D functionality for Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, details of the upcoming Halo: Reach title and a cameo of the Halo 4 Warthog in the upcoming Forza Motorsport 4 Autovista experience.

343 Industries announced at Halo Fest two stunningly re-imagined battlefields and a brand new Firefight map for “Halo: Anniversary”: Timberland, Prisoner and Installation 04.

Also for the first time, fans will be able to experience the original “Halo” campaign in a whole new dimension as they step onto the legendary ring world in stereoscopic 3D.

Using a custom made top-and-bottom 3D technology, 3D-TV owning fans will be able to experience the amazingly remastered “Halo: Anniversary” in a more immersive experience than ever before. Attendees can see this first at the immersive LG Cinema 3D Experience at Halo Fest.

    Upcoming “Halo: Reach” title update

The team at 343i has been hard at work on an update for “Halo: Reach” both to bring new experiences to fans as well as address longstanding feedback from the community.

The most noticeable change in the works? The return of the wicked, deadly and wildly fun “Halo: Combat Evolved” Magnum pistol to “Halo: Anniversary” and “Halo: Reach” multiplayer gameplay. An addition that will be supported in special, classic playlists, the original Magnum pistol is sure to rekindle some of the madness and carnage players reveled in a decade ago.

In addition, the update, which is targeted for release in October, will introduce several multiplayer fixes for “Halo: Reach” fans have been clamoring for.

Armor Lock now absorbs a level of damage based on the amount of remaining energy a player has, diminishing its effectiveness.

Active Camo’s duration has been reduced and the ability to block sword attacks using any weapon other than another sword has been disabled. And for fans of precision firing, reticle “bloom” is now configurable, delivering increased accuracy when firing in rapid succession.

This update will also enable “Halo: Reach” players using an Xbox 360 4GB console without a HDD to utilise Campaign and Firefight matchmaking which previously required a HDD.

Beyonce Pregnant: ‘A Star Is Born’ Delayed By Clint Eastwood

Beyonce Pregnant: ‘A Star Is Born’ Delayed By Clint Eastwood:
Beyonce’s pregnancy, announced Sunday night at the MTV Video Music Awards, may push back shooting on her next film. The irony? She’s due to star in a remake of the film, “A Star Is Born.”
In January, the Golden Globe-nominee was cast in Clint Eastwood’s telling of the story of a young singer who falls in love with a spiraling, fading rock star. Filming on the pic according to Deadline, was due to begin in February. That won’t happen, the site reports, quoting an insider’s relaying that Eastwood has agreed to delay rolling until the baby is delivered and the singer is back to full strength.
The film still does not have a leading man, as Eastwood’s “J. Edgar” star Leonardo DiCaprio declined to take on the role of the alcoholic musician.
This will be the fourth version of the film; previously, versions were produced starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson 1976, Judy Garland and James Mason in 1954 and Janet Gaynor and Fredric March in 1937.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 for IFA 2011 in a Bit More Detail

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 for IFA 2011 in a Bit More Detail:
The team at Samsung blew the top off of the Android world back in November of 2010 when the released the first real Android tablet effort across the world – what the tech world’s next big convention IFA 2011 may hold is the next generation of this very model with an added 0.7-inches and a Super AMOLED display. As we know from leaked details contained in Samsung’s own official “Unpacked” app for IFA in Berlin, they certainly will be releasing what’s called the Galaxy Tab 7.7. Aside a “Galaxy Note” device that’ll likely have something to do with a stylus for mobile devices and the “Wave 3,” a Bada device with a 4-inch Super AMOLED display,, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 would be the second reported upgrade to a device already out on the market with slightly lesser specifications.
What we can expect from the Galaxy Tab 7.7 was revealed earlier this month on August 11th where we got our hands on a leaked roadmap of Samsung devices which also let us in on possible specs for the first Ice Cream Sandwich device, the Nexus Prime (though we don’t call it that in the roadmap article, learn about how it was confirmed twice just yesterday on our sister site Android Community.) What this leaked roadmap tells us is that the tablet will be the next Android tablet in line to run Google’s official tablet-ready mobile OS Android 3.x Honeycomb.
In addition, this same roadmap lets us in on the idea that this tablet will come in two versions: P6200 and P6210 (or P6100), the latter being a Wi-Fi only device while the former will be an HSPA+ device (we’re hoping for the 4G LTE version sooner than later, if you know what I mean.) Next we believe this tablet will have a 3 megapixel camera on the back, a 2 megapixel camera on the front, and will have a rather impressive display to tote along.

Note that the photos above (at least one of them) have the Android menu row of soft keys, this indicating that the device will not be running Android 3.x Honeycomb.

Now here’s where it gets a bit more interesting: this device is said to have a 1024 x 600 pixel display – that’s all well and good on it’s own – but what we MAY be looking at here is a massively impressive (compared to current tablet-sized displays) Super AMOLED screen. Though back on the 12th of August the folks at Samsung insisted that the roadmap and some other details of future devices seen on several blogs were not accurate, we’ve got to keep considering what was noted:
Some media have been reporting that Samsung is preparing to launch nine new smartphones and two new tablet devices. While Samsung is continuously working on new devices for our customers, the details being cited are not accurate in this case.
We appreciate the interest in our upcoming mobile devices and will share more information once its available.
Prototype 7-inch Super AMOLED Samsung Mobile Display at FPD 2010
Beyond (or perhaps in spite of) Samsung’s words here, details on a 7-inch Super AMOLED display have been popping up since November of 2010. Inside that month we got to see a lovely glance at an early vision of a 7-inch Super AMOLED Galaxy Tab-style display. On the other hand, on May 2nd, 2011, we were again told by Samsung that there’d be no Super AMOLED tablets inside 2011. We shall see!

First Look At Justin Timberlake & Amanda Seyfried In ‘In Time’ Arrives Right On Schedule

First Look At Justin Timberlake & Amanda Seyfried In ‘In Time’ Arrives Right On Schedule:
Formerly titled “I’m.mortal” then “Now” before settling on “In Time,” director Andrew Niccol has stepped behind the camera again for the time in six years, returning to the sci-fi genre that served him so well the first time out with “Gattaca.” And he’s got a helluva story to tell.
Starring Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, Olivia Wilde, Cillian Murphy, Vincent Kartheiser and Collins Pennie, the film is set in a world where time has become a currency with the rich achieving immortality and never aging past 25. Accused of murder, Will Salas (Timberlake) has to go on the run and takes a hostage (Seyfried) with him until he can figure out how to clear his name, all while trying to bank the minutes he needs to stay alive. In an interesting twist, Wilde will play Will’s mother despite being four years younger than Timberlake (remember, no one ages past 25) with Kartheiser playing Seyfried’s Dad. Meanwhile, Murphy will play a law enforcer known as a “timekeeper” with Pennie, as his right hand man. Sounds like a pretty nifty little genre piece.

The first look images from the film are solid, and if anything, reveal that this future world is not so different from ours. The film hits on October 28th and with Comic-Con coming up, a trailer is expected to arrive by the end of the week. [via RopeOfSilicon]

‘Fireflies In The Garden’: Julia Roberts As Ryan Reynolds’ Mom In Finally Released Film

‘Fireflies In The Garden’: Julia Roberts As Ryan Reynolds’ Mom In Finally Released Film:

Both on screen and off, the shifting of time is essential in the telling the tale of “Fireflies In The Garden.”

The film, written and directed by Dennis Lee, saw its premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in 2008. While it later hit theaters in most parts of the world, financial difficulties shelved its US distribution for nearly three years, until it was announced last week that it will finally hit theaters in select cities on October 14th.

And so, American theatergoers will at last get to see the story in which Julia Roberts, in mostly flashback footage, plays mother to a boy that will become Ryan Reynolds, who appears in the film’s present-day shots. A sweet woman and caring mom, she’s plagued by her abusive husband, played by Willem Dafoe, who leaves the boy on the side of the road one rainy day.

Seventeen years later, now fully grown and portrayed by Reynolds, he is heading home for a family reunion when a car accident kills Roberts, who is aged up with heavy makeup (at 43-years old, to Reynolds’ 34, it’s a necessity). From there, the story is a test of blood and forgiveness, trust and anger, with three generations of one family doing their best to co-exist in the wake of so much damage.

Which VMAs Style Moment Was Most Shocking?

Which VMAs Style Moment Was Most Shocking?:

Baby bumps, Britney tributes and Bruno bashing — oh my! The MTV Video Music Awards were filled with many buzz-worthy moments last night, but the style choices of several stars gave us just as much to talk about.

Lady Gaga started the two-hour show as her male alter ego, Jo Calderone, wearing Brooks Brothers pants, a men’s jacket, little makeup and a short black wig. She convincingly stayed in character (and costume) all night, even hitting on Britney Spears while presenting her with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj hit the black carpet in a jagged bodysuit accessorized with plush creatures, knee-highs and lots of colorful hair. “Tokyo inspired this outfit,” she told reporters during the show. “Harajuku is something I have been absorbing for a long time.”

Though Justin Bieber one-upped her in the shock-value department — he brought his pet snake, Johnson, along for the ride — his accessories were slightly more demure; namely, his glasses. “I was just going for something fun and youthful and not too put together,” he told reporters. “Something that would go good with the cheetah shoes.”

But Beyoncé‘s accessory was the best of all: she debuted her baby bump in a flowing orange Lanvin gown, later revealing it for the television crowds in a Dolce & Gabbana tux following her performance of “Love on Top.”

It was Katy Perry, though, who became the night’s quick-change artist, starting out in an Atelier Versace geisha-style mini-dress, complete with parasol. To introduce Adele, the big nominee slipped into a long, high-necked purple gown, a departure from her usually revealing wardrobe. She ended the night in Dior Couture, sporting a pink top paired with a black-and-white tulip-shaped skirt and yellow cube-shaped hat, but not before looking like a broken record — literally! — in a sparkly black dress accented with vinyl bearing her name.

“I just felt like being colorful and fun and with me, I am okay with self-deprecation,” Perry told reporters. “I am all right with being laughed at and laughed with and just laughing, so that was the inspiration of tonight: just to have a laugh.”

There was a lot to look at, but we want to know: which VMAs style moment was most shocking?

HTC Droid Incredible Official Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update Leaks

HTC Droid Incredible Official Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update Leaks:

There is quite a bit of confusion regarding the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Droid Incredible. Originally, when a Gingerbread ROM leaked for the Droid Incredible, it was taken for granted that the handset will get some Gingerbread love. However, as time passed by, some HTC reps started telling Incredible users that the handset won’t be getting the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update, after all.

Things however again took a U-turn when one HTC rep confirmed that the Incredible would be getting the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update. Some documents from Verizon also leaked online, which stated that the Incredible would get the Gingerbread update. Now, a new Gingerbread ROM for the Droid Incredible has leaked online. From the look and feel of the ROM, it seems like this is the final version of the Gingerbread ROM for the Droid Incredible, which would be released to the public.

Visually, there are not many changes, except for a toggle menu and a task manager integrated into the notification bar. The Gingerbread update also brings some performance enhancements, and bug fixes. The usual Gingerbread goodies like an enhanced copy and paste functionality, and a Download Manager app is also on-board.

HTC Droid Incredible users who are interested in flashing this leaked ROM on their handset, should head over to this link for more information.

Katt Williams’ Anti-Mexican Rant In Phoenix: Comedian Takes On Latino Heckler

Katt Williams’ Anti-Mexican Rant In Phoenix: Comedian Takes On Latino Heckler:

Standup comedy is perhaps the most raw form of entertainment available on a mass scale, with just a small stage separating an audience — often inebriated — from the performer. By nature, comedians are often edgy and push boundaries, sometimes rubbing up against the sensibilities of certain viewers — and occasionally bursting way past even the more liberally drawn line of moral decency.

At a standup performance in Phoenix on Saturday, comedian Katt Williams arguably crossed that line when he got into an argument with a heckler. Once he found out that the offending audience member was of Mexican descent, he went off on a wild tangent, most of which is transcribed here.

In June, Williams was arrested for a stand off with a tractor driver, and later that month, had a meltdown on stage that included “incoherent babbling,” ripping off his shirt and doing pushups, Laughspin.com reports.

Watch the video below, and underneath that, find the rough transcription.

“Since y’all like it over here a lot. and I’m saying, if I’m speaking out of line, let me know. But I’m saying it appears to me, y’all like it over here a lot. And let me tell you why I’m making that assumption, because I have no right to make that assumption. But understand this, this what gives me the right, and don’t you get it twisted… If y’all had California and you loved it, then you shouldn’t have given that mothaf*cka up. You should have fought for California, goddamnit, since you love it..

Because you think I’m dissing Mexico and I’m defending America. Are you Mexican? Do you know where Mexico is? No this ain’t Mexico, it used to be Mexico, motherf*cker, and now it’s Phoenix, goddammit. USA! USA!

F*ck you back, n*gga. i bet you dont even go to mexico, motha f*cka… no n*gga, do you know where you at? USA! USA! I dont give a f*ck. no n*gga, this is my hood… [security comes] F*ck him! Mothaf*ckas think they can live in this country and pledge allegience to another country… do you remember when white people used to say go back to Africa? And we’d have to tell them we dont want to? So if you love Mexico, bitch, get the f*ck over there! [breaks into the National Anthem]..

We were slaves bitch, you just all work like that at the landscapers… It’s not even racial — you’re a bitch! I don’t give a f*ck what race that is, that’s a p*ssy.”
