‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadephia’: Fat Mac Explains Weight Gain At TCA Tour

‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadephia’: Fat Mac Explains Weight Gain At TCA Tour: "
“It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” has broken a lot of television rules over the years, with its assault on societal mores, racial boundaries and religious taboos. Like a demented, extreme Seinfeld, its stars are all fundamentally selfish, and, in pushing past its bourgeois New Yorker predecessor, are inherently unlikable to a a prude stranger to masochism.
Now, the next frontier: getting fat.

Series co-creator Rob McElhenney, who stars as the self-absorbed, very vain Mac on the show, gained 50 pounds for the upcoming season, creating a juicy storyline which sees his character try to deal with the sudden onset of obesity. But his intention wasn’t just to nail some easy fat jokes; at the Television Critics Association tour over the weekend, McElhenney said he was trying to make a statement with his expanded waistline.

“It came when I was watching a very popular sitcom, and I noticed the people were getting better and better looking as the seasons were going on,” McElhenney said (via TV Guide). “I always thought that what we were trying to do on Sunny was the deconstruction of the sitcom.”
To get there, McElhenney said that he ate 5,000 calories a day; he has since lost 20-25 pounds, but is still a far ways from his old weight.

Its a similar sentiment to one he gave to Collider in July, and part of a larger theme for the show. Operating on a tight budget, the crew, which also includes Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton and Katilin Olson, tried to bring the sitcom back to its basics.

“Our philosophy from the very beginning is when you’re making a situation comedy that it really is just a group of people sitting in a room talking to each other,” McElhenney (via The Hollywood Reporter). “We thought, ‘Well, let’s just figure out a way to do that as cheap as possible… we just wanted to break it down to its basics.”

orge Posada Benched: Yankees Catcher Says ‘It’s Very Disappointing’

Slumping Jorge Posada was pulled from the New York Yankees’ lineup Sunday night against Boston and manager Joe Girardi suggested the five-time All-Star might be on the bench for a while.
“We’re going to see how this works,” Girardi said.
A former catcher, the 39-year-old Posada has been the Yankees’ primary designated hitter this year against right-handed starters. But Girardi had Eric Chavez as the DH against Red Sox righty Josh Beckett.
“It’s very disappointing. You want to be out there,” Posada said. “But right now it’s about winning ballgames. He told me he wants to put the best lineup out there.”
Posada is just 3 for 18 this month and is hitting only .230 overall with nine homers and 31 RBIs. Chavez, who was activated from the 60-day disabled list on July 26, is batting .323.
Said Girardi: “We think Jorge’s going to be a big part of the team. He was disappointed. You could see it.”

    JORGE POSADA
It’s not the first time that Posada’s lack of production has affected his spot.
In June, Posada asked out of the lineup when he was dropped to ninth in the order in a game against Boston in New York. Posada apologized the next day.
“He’s just struggled to find a way to get his hits,” Girardi said. “It’s just been a tough year for him. … Jorgie and I have a relationship. That has gone a long way.”

How to Make a Wi Fi Booster Using Only a Beer Can

How to Make a Wi Fi Booster Using Only a Beer Can: "
Not only is this clever use of a beer can an ultra cheap tech hack, it also means less fiddling around with cardboard and aluminum foil as required by other hack methods. This method has been proven to improve Wi-Fi reception from around 2 bars to about 4 on average, varying between 3 and 5. Give it a go – all you've got to waste is a beer can!

    Edit Steps

    1. Gather the required materials and tools. These are listed below under 'Things You'll Need'.

Real Wedding of the Week: Anna and Chris in Audubon, PA

Photos: Lorraine Daley Wedding Photography and Allure West Studios
Anna and Chris met in Chicago in 2007—they were teammates on a co-ed softball team and the couple became engaged in the fall of 2009. "Chris slipped a ring on my finger while I was sleeping," says Anna. "When I woke up, he was on one knee, asking me to check my finger." For their wedding day, she chose a silk organza gown with a sequined bow by Cymbeline, purchased at the salon in New York City. "It was the first dress that felt like 'me,'" Anna says. She made her hair accessory using netting and a vintage pin. Following the ceremony, cocktail hour was held in the nineteenth-century fieldstone barn. Guests enjoyed bluegrass music by Noggin Hill and sipped spiked Arnold Palmers—the couple's signature cocktail—in old-fashioned mason jars. The Worst iPhone Case Ever

The Worst iPhone Case Ever: "

We’ve seen our fair share of weird and creepy iPhone accessories, but this one might reach a new height. Coming from Japan, let me introduce you to the Hand Case.

We don’t know much about this case. I can’t tell you where you can get it or how much it costs, but that shouldn’t be too much of an issue as I doubt you’d be interested in buying it anyway… (...)

Week in Review | The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

To wrap up this week, we decided to sift through the news and share what we are excited for, what we are sad about and what we just don't understand. Here is this week's The Good, The Bad and The Ugly:

The Good: Karl Lagerfeld made headlines when he announced he was doing a second fast fashion collaboration (his first was with H&M in 2004). We were pleasantly surprised by his upcoming fall collection for Macy's: cheap, chic and it even has Cathy Horyn's stamp of approval. We're sold.

The Bad: The Alexander McQueen exhibit, "Savage Beauty" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art was extended until August 7th. Haven't seen it already? Don't bother. The line is so long anyone who enters the museum has to wait an hour even if they aren't seeing the exhibit. Too bad.

The Ugly: Kate Bosworth always looks chic. We love her Isabel Marant booties. What we are not loving? Her new dip dyed do. Or should I say "don't." So ugly.

    Blood Falls

    Blood Falls: "

    Blood Falls

Natural time capsule containing an alien ecosystem
This five-story, blood-red waterfall pours very slowly out of the Taylor Glacier in Antarctica's McMurdo Dry Valleys. When geologists first discovered the frozen waterfall in 1911, they thought the red color came from algae, but its true nature turned out to be much more spectacular.

Roughly two million years ago, the Taylor Glacier sealed beneath it a small body of water which contained an ancient community of microbes. Trapped below a thick layer of ice, they have remained there ever since, isolated inside a natural time capsule. Evolving independently of the rest of the living world, these microbes exist in a place with no light or free oxygen and little heat, and are essentially the definition of 'primordial ooze.' The trapped lake has very high salinity and is rich in iron, which gives the waterfall its red color. A fissure in the glacier allows the subglacial lake to flow out, forming the falls without contaminating the ecosystem within.

The existence of the Blood Falls ecosystem shows that life can exist in the most extreme conditions on Earth. Though tempting to make the connection, it does not prove, however, that life could exist on other planets with similar environments and similar bodies of frozen water—notably Mars and Jupiter's moon Europa—as such life would have to arise from a completely different chain of events.

Even if it doesn't confirm the existence of extraterrestrial life, Antarctica's Blood Falls is a wonder to behold both visually and scientifically.

Foods that Trigger Rheumatoid Arthritis Flare-Ups

Do restaurant meals and snack attacks leave you with rheumatoid arthritis aches and pains? Certain foods – some of your favorites, like steak and cookies – may be causing flare-ups. Find out what you should stay away from and how to pick tasty substitutes. Plus, what’s your inflammation IQ? Take our quiz to find out…

When you have rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a restaurant menu or open refrigerator can seem like a test: Can you find foods that satisfy your cravings without making joints swell, ache and stiffen?

Definitely. It’s easier than you think.

You can still eat meat – as long as you choose leaner cuts. Crave salty snacks? Eat nuts instead of chips.

The key is following an anti-inflammatory diet, which helps you avoid RA flares. And these smarter food choices aren’t necessarily boring ones. Antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables, high-fiber grains and healthy fats can all help you reduce RA aches – in a matter of days.

“I start my RA patients on a general anti-inflammatory diet, and they feel better within a week,” says internist Leo Galland, M.D., whose book The Fat Resistance Diet (Three Rivers Press) is based on anti-inflammatory foods.

“Their pain and stiffness is greatly reduced.”
