A British student has been found dead on a railway embankment after worried relatives reported her missing in Krakow, Poland.Kate Zaks, 21, was on a temporary work placement in Poland working as an intern in an art gallery as part of her history studies. Her family whom she was staying with raised the alarm after she failed to return to her apartment on Friday night.

The local authorities had already begun a search for the 21 year old girl when a passenger on a train contacted them after spotting a body on an embankment near to where she lived. It was later confirmed to be the body of Kate Zaks.


Police believe that the cause of death relates to the severe head injuries she sustained which appears to be a result of being struck several times with a blunt object.

A spokeswoman for the Krakow police has confirmed the victim had told her family she was meeting someone on the night she was killed. They questioned a 30 year old man, however he was released after they established he was not involved.

Her family have been informed and have flown out to Krakow to meet with the authorities. The foreign office has also been informed of the death and is in contact with the local police who are heading up the investigation.
